by Dorothy Markulis | Reporter Boston Heights -- Voters opted to keep Mayor Bill Goncy for four more years in the Nov. 8 general election. Goncy garnered 346 votes (57 percent) against his challenger, Village Council member Janet Miller, who pulled 264 votes, according to the final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections. Goncy, 63, served on the Village Council from 1986 to 2007 and was elected mayor in 2008. "You always hope if you're doing the right thing you'll get to keep doing it," Goncy said. The mayor said he plans to move ahead with more projects to benefit the residents, including working with Hudson for a bike and hike trail. "We're also working on a better email and web site," Goncy said. Goncy's goal is to be able to contact residents electronically with daily updates. "We can't live in the past, we have to live in the future," he said. "But we do learn a lot from the past. We have a heritage." TWO NEW FACES ON COUNCIL Boston Heights Village Council write-in candidate Ron Antal with 288 votes, (39 percent), and Glen R. Blakeney Sr. with 237 votes, (33 percent), claimed the two at-large seats open on Council. Challenger James D. Hudson lost with 197 votes. Antal, who made the Summit County Board of Elections write-in candidate deadline with just minutes to spare, said being a write-in prompted him to "get out there" and campaign. "I must have knocked on 800 doors and talked to more than 400 people," Antal said. Antal, 46, a certified public accountant, said his financial background will enable him to introduce new ideas to the village's finance, fire and safety committees. Blakeney, 54, an instructor with the Summit County Board of Developmental Disability, had said he hopes to maintain the green space of the village and preserve its small-town atmosphere. Blakeney will join his wife, Dawn Brannan Blakeney, on the Village Council, along with Councilmen Frank Baxter, Don Polyak, Ronald Fenn and the newly-elected Antal.
