Hudson -- For the third year in a row the Hudson Library and Historical Society will be the place for entrepreneurs to go for advice on starting, maintaining and financing business ventures.

The library's Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship Research has a full slate of speakers and free workshops, which begin Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

"Turnout has been excellent," said Ellen Smith, head of reference and archives at the library. "I really feel we are filling a need out there."

Since the series began two years ago, more than 2,500 people have attended, Smith said.

"Every subject we seem to have covered has had a high-interest level," Smith said. "The most popular are the nuts and bolts programs such as how to run a business, planning, finances and marketing."

At the end of each workshop, there is a question and answer period and networking time, Smith said.

"I'd say the workshops are as important now as ever," Smith said. "A lot of people are either laid off from their job or thinking they ought to fulfill a dream and open their own business."

The workshops are not just for people wanting to start a new business, Smith said.

"We offer any assistance, whatever level they are at," Smith said. "We really try and have a broad range of topics on fulfilling the needs of everyone in small business. It's a great place to network."

Since its inception in fall 2008, the research center has assisted scores of individuals from the small business community, providing access to print and online resources, DVDs, audiobooks, programming and business counseling services, all geared towards assisting entrepreneurs getting a business established or expanding one that already exists, Smith said.

"Many have benefited from the partnerships the library's Burton D. Morgan Center has formed with various business counseling agencies," Smith said. "All of our one-on-one counseling services are free of charge, by appointment, and meet in our private study rooms."
