Hudson -- The Board of Education has called a special meeting Sept. 1 to "consider the approval of the private funding and construction process for the proposed high school stadium."

The special meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Hudson High School media center.

The Hudson City Schools Foundation, a charitable organization independent from the schools, is spearheading fundraising for the stadium project. The Joy and Tom Murdough Foundation in December donated $2 million to the foundation to kick off the fundraising efforts.

The estimated cost of the new athletic complex is between $4.2 million and $5.5 million, said Ray Ebersole, Hudson Schools athletic director.

Superintendent Steve Farnsworth has assured the Board no money would come from the district coffers for construction and design.

He did say that since the Board owns the property, it must be involved with the planning and construction.

The money for design and construction will come from funds being raised by the Hudson City Schools Foundation. The foundation is a charitable organization, which was given $2 million in December by the Tom and Joy Murdough Foundation.

The new facility would hold 6,000. Its proposed location is at the Hudson High School track.

Currently the high school plays its home games at Dante Lavelli Stadium, 65 N. Hayden Parkway, near the middle school. The facility, built in 1972, holds about 3,000 people.

The School Board also is scheduled to discuss goals for the 2010-11 school year on Sept. 1.
