Henning achieves top Toastmaster award

Hudson Toastmasters founder Billie Henning of Henning Software, achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster, DTM, award in August.

This International Toastmasters award is achieved by first completing the Competent Leader award, Advanced Leader award, Competent Communicator award, 15 speeches from six advanced manuals, two speeches from the Better Speaker educational series, conducting a Success/Leadership Program and serving as an area governor. Distinguished Toastmaster is the highest recognition a member may receive.

Henning founded Hudson Toastmasters in 1997 and has held every officer position including president three times.

Hudson Toastmasters' meetings are every second and fourth Mondays monthly starting at 5:30 p.m. at Henning Software Inc, 102 First St., Suite 211 (second floor) in Hudson. Community First president works out

Jack Lieske, president of Hudson Community First, is representing Hudson in the four-city Fitness Challenge sponsored by Fitness Together, a personal training studio located in the First & Main shopping district.

Lieske has been working out with personal trainers three days a week and has already lost 16 pounds.

The Hudson Fitness Together Challenge, which kicked off in June, is a 12-week program focused on creating a healthy lifestyle through exercise and good nutrition.

"It's a terrific program with lots of personal attention and detailed workouts that are unique to what I had previously experienced," Lieske said.

Other cities participating in the challenge include Solon, Chagrin Falls and Rocky River.

"Jack has really committed to the program despite his busy schedule," said Fitness Together co-owner Michael Hall. "His passion for getting his community involved in living a healthy lifestyle has made Jack really fun to work with."

Legion Auxiliary resumes meetings

Lee-Bishop Unit 464, American Legion Auxiliary, will resume its monthly meetings Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Western Reserve Christian Church, 516 W. Streetsboro St. A speaker from Aurora Manor will discuss volunteering opportunities.

Hudson Community Service meets

Hudson Community Service Association will meet Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Barlow Community Center. It is an organization of members of other non-profit organizations and church volunteers.

A speaker from Reverse Alert of Summit County will talk to the group Sept. 2.

The organization is in the process of establishing a food pantry in the community and is looking for volunteers to help. It also supports the downtown holiday lighting program and provides aid to residents in need.

Get acquainted at Newcomers events

The Hudson Newcomers Club will host its annual "Get Acquainted Coffee" on Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hudson Library and Historical Society's large meeting room.

The event is designed to welcome new residents to the area and help them discover ways to get involved in the community. A variety of local clubs and organizations will share information about their groups. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

The Newcomers Club will have tables set up with information on memberships, its fashion show and more. Baby-sitting will be available for children 4 years and younger in the library's children story room.

Breast Cancer Support Group meets Sept. 3

The Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Sept. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the Luther Room at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 2113 Ravenna St. in Hudson Guests may bring lunch.
