HCER offers

several sports

Hudson Community Education & Recreation and Jump Start Sports is expected to offer a new volleyball program this fall for children in grades 1 to 6.

The program is scheduled to take place Wednesday evenings from Sept. 22 through Oct. 27. All fundamentals will be taught, including serves, sets, slams, blocks, returns, positioning and team strategy. Coaching will be conducted by Jump Start Sports staff coaches.

HCER and Jump Start Sports also are accepting registrations for other fall sports, including fall baseball and softball for boys and girls ages 3-10; Hummingbirds Soccer for children ages 3-6; After School Soccer for children in grades kindergarten-5; and Hudson Youth Flag Football for children in grades kindergarten-5.

Teams needed

Kent State University is accepting teams for the following leagues:

Basketball: Men’s Friday Night League

Softball (slow-pitch): Co-Rec Saturday Night League and Men’s Thursday Night League

Volleyball (indoor): Co-Rec Sunday Night League and Men’s & Women’s Thursday Night League

Try out for HEAT

The Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team is scheduled to host team tryouts for new swimmers Sept. 7 and 8.

Interested swimmers, ages 5 through 18, are eligible to tryout.

Tryout sessions are set to take place at the East Woods Elementary School (120 N. Hayden Parkway) at 7:30 p.m.  Swimmers only need to attend one of the tryout sessions.

HEAT is a year-round USA Swimming affiliated team, with practice locations in Hudson (East Woods Elementary) and Kent (Theodore Roosevelt High School).

Wrestle in Hudson

Hudson-based Kratos Wrestling Club is conducting signups for youth wrestlers interested in its “Introduction to Wrestling” or “Preseason Training” programs. 

These programs are designed for children in grades of kindergarten through eighth grade. Training is scheduled to begin Oct. 5 and will continue two nights per week through the end of October.  For details, contact Doug Williams at 330-245-6050 or visit www.kratoswrestling.com.

 

Play golf

The Ohio Turnpike Challenge at Hudson Springs Disc Golf Course is scheduled to take place Sept. 25 at Hudson Springs Park.

Registration is set to take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and a players meeting is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. at a pavilion in the park. Tee-off is set for 10 a.m. For details, visit site.just-disc-golf.com.
