The host Western Reserve Academy boys soccer team earned a commanding 8-0 victory over Tri-County rival Canton Central Catholic Aug. 28. The Pioneers (1-0-1) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half and scored another five goals in the second half. Sophomore Steve Eneme led the way with four goals. Senior Joe Marmerstein, senior captain Kyle Bernlohr, sophomore Fede Silva, and junior Kufre Usip also found the nets for Reserve. “We were able to put CCC under a great deal of pressure and scored some fantastic goals,” WRA head coach Herb Haller said. “Seniors Jordan Riley, Henry Hamlin, Kenny Russell and Peter Cai, also a captain, led the defense.” Sophomores Scott Schultz and Collin McGill shared goalkeeper duties. The host Pioneers earned a 1-1 tie against Kent Roosevelt Aug. 26. Kent took a 1-0 lead, but Marmerstein tied the game in the second half. “Overall, it was an even game with both teams having several opportunities to score the winning goal,” Haller said. “After only a week and a half of practice, I was pleased with the result. There are clearly some areas where we need to improve.” Reserve is scheduled to entertain Woodridge Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. before heading to the Holy Cross Classic at Akron Archbishop Hoban High School Sept. 4 and 5. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 4 and 3 p.m. Sept. 5. — From staff reports E-mail: stowsports@recordpub.com Phone: 330-686-3914
