Fall HCER classes start Sept. 7

Hudson Community Education and Recreation has a huge line-up of fall classes beginning the week of Sept. 7. Register at www.hudson.edu/hcer.

Preschool

Hudson Hummingbirds Soccer is an instructional soccer program is for boys and girls ages 3 to 6. Children learn basic dribbling, passing, shooting and positioning skills and then apply these skills in non-competitive games. Classes are offered Tuesdays Sept. 7 to Oct. 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at East Woods, or Saturdays Sept. 11 through Oct. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hudson High School.

Hudson T-birds Tee Ball is for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds, and teaches the basics of catching, throwing and hitting. Participants then use these skills in non-competitive games. The program meets Saturdays Sept. 11 to Oct. 30, with game times at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Park on Barlow Road.

Grades K-5

After School Soccer teaches children in kindergarten through fifth grade the basics of soccer. Classes meet Tuesdays Sept. 7 to Oct. 26 immediately after school at East Woods.

Rookie League Baseball Ages 5-6 offers an introduction to coach pitch baseball. It meets Saturdays Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. or 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Park.

Minor League Baseball Ages 6-8 is a coach pitch program with instruction offered within the context of the game. It meets Wednesdays Sept. 8 to Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Barlow Farm Park on Barlow Road.

Major League Baseball for ages 8-10 provides recreational kid-pitch baseball on Tuesdays Sept. 7 through Oct. 19 at Barlow Farm Park. Team rosters and schedules will be e-mailed in early September.

Girls Coach Pitch Softball for ages 6-8 offers coach pitch softball on Saturdays Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Oak Grove Park.

Fall Junior Golf with Jeff Camp for Grades 4-8 concentrates on putting, chipping, using irons and woods, and golf etiquette, taught by Jeff Camp, Hudson varsity golf coach. It meets at the Country Club of Hudson Sept. 8, 15, 17, 23 and 24 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Flag Football for Grades K-5 teaches the basics of football with low competition games. It meets Thursdays Sept. 9 to Oct. 28 at the East Woods School fields. An after-school program meets until 5 p.m. Students are divided into two age groups. Peewee League, for grades K-1, and Pony League, for grades 2-3, are offered from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

After School Girls Basketball teaches good sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork and the rules of the game. Classes meet Thursdays Sept. 9 to Oct. 14. Grades 3-5 meet from 3:50 to 4:50 p.m. at McDowell Elementary Gym. Grades K-2 meet from 5 to 6 p.m. at McDowell Gym.

Dribbling and Shooting Clinics with Coach Johnny is for children in grades K-5. It meets Fridays Sept. 10 to Oct. 8 at McDowell Gym. Grades K-2 meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Grades 3-5 meet from 3:50 to 4:50 p.m.

Pre-Competitive Swimming focuses on the four competitive strokes along with an emphasis on future competition. Class meets Saturdays Sept. 11 to Nov. 20 from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at East Woods School pool.

Spring Board Diving, designed for all ages, teaches the fundamentals of diving. No experience is necessary Class meets Saturdays Sept. 11 to Oct. 30 from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at East Woods School pool.

Synchronized Swimming is a new class focusing on sculling, line formations and stunts, set to music. Participants must be at least a level 3 swimmer. Class meets from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 to Oct. 30 at East Woods School pool.

Special Olympics Swim Team is for children ages 8 and older who are able to swim at least 25 yards without aid. The course is taught by Wayne Lawrence and will focus on getting ready for the meet at Wooster and going to Columbus for states. Its meets Saturdays Sept. 11 to Dec. 11 from noon to 1 p.m. at East Woods Pool.

Teens

Driver Education, required by the state of Ohio for teens under the age of 18, includes 24 hours of classroom training and eight hours of behind the wheel training. Students must be 15 years and 5 months old to begin classroom training. Class meets Sept. 8, 13, 15, 20, 22 and 27 at Hudson High School.

Lifeguard Training for Ages 15 and up provides individuals with specialized lifesaving skills, first aid and CPR training necessary for becoming a certified lifeguard. The course fee includes a CPR mask and American Red Cross fees. Participants must be 15 years old and meet other swimming requirements. Class meets Sundays Sept. 12 to Oct. 17 from noon to 6 p.m. at East Woods School pool.

Adults

Men's 21 and Over Basketball, a pick-up basketball program, meets Wednesday Sept. 8 to Dec. 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Hudson High School auxiliary gym. Additional leagues for older age groups are available.

Adult Fall Golf plays every other Friday from September through October, as long as the weather stays nice. Those interested in playing or hosting an event should e-mail HCER@hudson.edu.

Bocce Ball Tournament League is for teams of two, whose score will be recorded on the HCER website. The winners will receive a trophy. Bocce ball meets Sundays Sept. 12 to Oct. 24 from approximately 2 to 4 p.m. The schedule will be determined by participation. E-mail HCER at HCER @hudson.edu with team and contact information. All games will be played at Hudson Springs Park bocce courts.

Chamber continues education series

The Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce Education Series continues Sept. 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Barlow Community Center with a workshop focused on building sales.

Three experts in the field will meet with small groups and offer advice on how to cultivate relationships, motivate sales teams, and boost sales.

The cost is $20 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members.

This will be a small-group format, with each group having more than 30 minutes with each expert.

Participants will have time to ask questions pertaining specifically to their businesses and gain advice on how to improve their sales efforts.

The experts will include Jeff Nischwitz, founder of Think Again, a training, consulting and coaching company that helps people and organizations build relationships that drive results, navigate change, and improve effectiveness and execution. He is a national speaker and trainer on various topics.

He will share his perspectives on shifting from a transactional sales approach to a relationship building model to improve sales results.

Holly Rhoads, a partner of The Ruby Group, will discuss "Incenting your sales team." The Ruby Group provides sales, sales management, and non-traditional business training to more than 200 clients in Northeast Ohio.

Donna Kastner of Enlighten 123 will present "Five ways to power up your prospecting." Kastner works with clients to help them engage in more new business conversations, often through integrated call and digital campaigns.
