Being the mother of four young children, my favorite thing about Hudson is its schools. Next is seeing the destinations of Hudson's graduating seniors. In June, I was awed by the young men and women graduates and the opportunities surrounding them. I am excited that my children will have these same opportunities because we live in Hudson. However, the looming tax levy makes me wonder if my children will see those opportunities. People opposing the levy have said "My children don't go to school yet," "My children graduated," "My children attend private school, why should I pay more taxes that won't benefit me or my family?" Why? Because we are a community, and communities support themselves across the board. One day these little children will be in kindergarten, and you will want exceptional education. Your graduates benefited from my tax dollars. If asked by your son or daughter for support, regardless of the school they attended, wouldn't you want them to receive my support? Don't my children deserve the same? Opponents agree that times are tough. If we choose to not stand behind our public schools, what futures will our children see? The district has already made several concessions and cuts in order to manage the budget. Isn't it our turn to step up to the plate? When voters go to the polls and are asked to vote for or against the school levy, I hope that they will remember my four young children. Ask yourself if all Hudson children don't deserve the same excellent education of years past. Wouldn't you agree that they do? What parent doesn't want that? Our children are the future of this city, state and country. I ask that we educate them in the exceptional way that Hudson residents have come to expect. If we don't, no one else will.
