Legion Auxiliary resumes meetings Lee-Bishop Unit 464, American Legion Auxiliary, will resume its monthly meetings Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Western Reserve Christian Church, 516 W. Streetsboro St. A speaker from Aurora Manor will discuss volunteering opportunities. The officers for the year are: President Mary Barnhard, First Vice President Sandra Borovicka, Second Vice President Sue Whittaker, Secretary Cathy Williams, Treasurer Barbara Mansfield, Chaplain Charlotte Mayeros, Historian Gail Roddy and Sgt. at Arms Lisa Yari. The American Legion Auxiliary's mission is to promote patriotism, democracy, loyalty and justice; assist and support veterans, their children and families; be involved in the community; and support children's programs, scholarships, educational programs, national security and veterans benefits. For more information, call Martha Marsh at 330-653-6509. Hudson Community Service meets Hudson Community Service Association will meet Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Barlow Community Center. It is an organization of members of other non-profit organizations and church volunteers. A speaker from Reverse Alert of Summit County will talk to the group Sept. 2. The organization is in the process of establishing a food pantry in the community and is looking for volunteers to help. It also supports the downtown holiday lighting program and provides aid to residents in need. Donations for the holiday lighting program can be made to HCSA, Box 284, Hudson. Get acquainted at Newcomers events The Hudson Newcomers Club will host its annual "Get Acquainted Coffee" on Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hudson Library and Historical Society's large meeting room. The event is designed to welcome new residents to the area and help them discover ways to get involved in the community. A variety of local clubs and organizations will share information about their groups. Coffee and refreshments will be served. The Newcomers Club will have tables set up with information on memberships and dues, special interest groups, its fashion show and more. -:-:-:- The Hudson Newcomers Club will host its annual meeting and Get Acquainted Social on Sept. 8 at the Old Whedon Grille, 200 N. Main St., at 7 p.m. Guests will learn about the club while enjoying a ladies' night out. Newborns in Need collects baby items The Hudson Satellite group of Newborns In Need will join with other chapters nationwide to host a baby shower on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Communities around the nation will bring donations of baby items to local chapters that will in turn be used to help babies in need. The local chapter will collect items at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. New or gently used clothing for premature and newborn babies, sizes 0 through 9 months, bottles, bibs, comfort toys, preemie to small size diapers, baby wipes, lotion, powder, receiving blankets, and bassinet sheets are all needed. All donations are tax deductible. The monthly Newborns In Need workday will be help the same day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Help is needed in all areas of cutting, sewing, stuffing, finishing, knitting and crocheting. This group is open to anyone interested in helping babies. Lunch is provided. Call 330-607-0856 for more information. Breast Cancer Support Group meets Sept. 3 The Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Sept. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the Luther Room at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 2113 Ravenna St. in Hudson Guests may bring lunch. New Clevelanders welcomes members The New Clevelanders Club is a social and philanthropic organization made up of women who have moved into the suburbs of Cleveland, east of the Cuyahoga River.
