Case Western Reserve University professor Scott Shane will answer the question "Are entrepreneurs born or made?" at the Hudson Library and Historical Society Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. His book, "Born Entrepreneurs, Born Leaders: How your genes affect your work life," claims that DNA accounts for one third of the difference among co-workers in many aspects of work life. Shane is the A. Malachi Mixon III, Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at the Weatherhead School of Management at CWRU. A regular contributor to Bloomberg Businessweek, Shane's latest work on genetics and workplace behavior was recently featured in a report on CNNMoney.com. Shane will explain why genes matter and how they can influence numerous aspects of professional lives, from the jobs we choose to how effectively we make decisions and manage people, and how to think about the human dynamics at play in the workplace. Learn the tools for locally-focused online marketing for small businesses from one of Northeast Ohio's experts in the field, Mark Geyman. The Hudson Library & Historical Society Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship Research will host this workshop on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. as part of the fall 2010 Entrepreneurship Series of events. Through his online business directory, OhioBiz.com, Geyman focuses on local business presence on the Web and specializes in assisting entrepreneurs and organizations gain greater online presences through Search Engine Optimization. "I am still passionate about helping local small businesses seek greater exposure and more sales in targeting a local audience," Geyman said. Geyman is the founder and owner of OhioBiz.com, Ohio's largest locally-owned business directory, and also one of the country's first local/regional business directories. In addition, he owns and operates OhioBiz Web Consulting, LLC, offering website hosting, content maintenance and consulting services. He founded and led the Greater Cleveland PC Users; Group Internet SIG for more than two years, and was a part-time faculty member at Lakeland Community College and taught courses at Notre Dame College and the International Webmasters Association/HTML Writers Guild. Geyman graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in speech communications, specialized in radio, TV and film and minored in marketing and sales. Program helps students prepare for PSAT, SAT A free PSAT and SAT preparation program for students will be offered at the Hudson Library and Historical Society Sept. 19 from 3 to 4 p.m. The program will focus on the PSAT and SAT and how to prepare for the exams. Test taking tips and a discussion and selection of resources will be available to help students prepare. Students planning to the PSAT and SAT for the first time may find the presentation helpful. Pre-registration for this program is requested so that the appropriate number of materials will be available for participants. Pre-registration for the preparation program can be made in person or by phoning the teen room at the library at 330-653-6658 ext. 1032. The program presenter is Paula Purves, a Hudson resident and PSAT and SAT tutor with more than 25 years of experience. Purves has a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in education and concentration in psychological testing. The PSAT exam is scheduled for Oct. 13 at Hudson High School. To registration for the PSAT students must go to the high school guidance office. The SAT exam is scheduled for Oct. 9 and Nov. 6 at Hudson High School. The regular registration deadlines are Sept. 10 and Oct. 8, respectively. The late registration must be made by Sept. 24 and Oct. 22. 'Hunger Games' challenges teens Teens can celebrate Suzanne Collins' and her "Hunger Games" trilogy on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Hudson library's Cornucopia Challenge. Teens will race to the Cornucopia and use their wits to select the best tools for a series of silly survival challenges, such as building a paper airplane for an escape. Cookbooks will be featured at the next Friends of the Hudson Library book sale Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Novels by best-selling authors Sandra Brown and James Patterson will also be featured at the sale. The Friends book sale room has a wide variety of books, movies and music for all ages and interests. The Hudson Library and Historical Society will present the second of a three-part series of previews of this season's Cleveland Orchestra concerts on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Dr. Rose Breckenridge earned her Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University and leads the Cleveland Orchestra's Music Study Groups. She will review The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, part of the Cleveland Orchestra concert to be presented on Sept. 23 and 25 at Severance Hall. The preview, geared to both new and experienced music lovers, will include background on the both the composer and the composition, as well as guided listening to musical excerpts. The final program in this Cleveland Orchestra Previews Series will be at the library on March 10. Breckenridge will preview the Mozart opera "Don Giavanni" which will be performed at Severance Hall in March 2011. These programs are free and open to the public. No registration is required. Phone registrations will be accepted. The eight-week fall storytime session will begin Sept. 27 and end the week of Nov. 15. Ages listed are by Oct. 1, 2010. Baby Time is a program of simple stories, rhymes, songs and activities for children 6 to 24 months old and their guardians. Sessions requiring registration are offered on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 11 to 11:20 a.m. A session that doesn't require registration is offered on Mondays from 11 to 11:20 a.m. starting Sept. 27. Tales For Twos and Threes features stories, rhymes, songs and activities for children ages 2 to 3 years old, accompanied by an adult. It is offered on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. Totally Threes features stories, rhymes, songs and activities for children 3 years old, accompanied by an adult. It is offered on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 9:55 a.m. My Time For Fours and Fives is for children 4 and 5 years old and will include stories and activities. Kindergartners are welcome. Parents and caregivers are asked to remain in the building. Times available are Mondays or Tuesdays from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. and Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Evening Storytime includes stories, songs and activities for children 2 to 5 years old. Parents and caregivers are welcome. This will be on Thursdays from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The Hudson children's library also offers All Together Now, which does not require registration. It includes stories, songs and activities for children 2 to 5 years old. Parents and caregivers are welcome to accompany their children. It is offered on Mondays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. beginning Sept. 27. The children's library offer "Sleepytime Stories" for children of all ages and their families.
