Hudson UMC offers new classes The Hudson United Methodist Church will kick off its new fall schedule of Sunday school classes for adults, teens, and children on Aug. 22. Seven adult classes will discuss a wide range of topics in small groups. Sunday school classes begin at 10 a.m., between the 9 and 11:15 services, giving everyone the opportunity to attend worship and participate in study groups. Hudson UMC also offers a full range of child- and youth-oriented classes, beginning with 3- and 4-year-olds through senior-high teens. The church is at the corner of Hudson-Aurora and Stow Roads. Western Reserve Christian Church, 516 W. Streetsboro St., will have a chicken barbecue Aug. 22. Guests may eat at the church or take out dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. The price of the adult meal is $8, and the child's meal is $5. Walk-ins are welcome and dinners are first come first served. Tickets are limited. Call the church at 330-650-1242 to secure tickets. The ladies of the church will have a lost treasures sale from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22. Lost treasures are new craft items as well as gently used items. St. Mary offers Christian initiation program St. Mary Church in Hudson will begin its 2010-11 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program Aug. 31. There is also a Rite of Christian Initiation of Children which runs concurrently with the adult session. Classes at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Jewish education classes offered Temple Beth Shalom Hebrew School in Hudson will provide Jewish education to children ages preschool through eighth grade this fall. The first day of school is Aug. 29. Non-member families are welcome to register children in pre-kindergarten through second grade. Registration materials are available at www.tbshudson.org. Program looks at pilgrimage to Egypt The Rev. Kay Rackley, associate rector at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. in Hudson, will present "An Egyptian Pilgrimage" on Sept. 15, 22 and 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Rackley will share the experiences of her pilgrimage to Egypt. She spent three weeks in Egypt and Jordan with a group that visited the sacred sites of ancient Egypt. She will share her understanding of their culture and belief systems, her experiences at the sacred sites, and the wisdom that this ancient culture offers today. The sessions are free and open to the public. Community Chapel welcomes newcomers The women of Hudson Community Chapel will help new residents get to know the community at a newcomers brunch Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 750 W. Streetsboro St. The brunch is followed up by a weekly class designed for women who are looking for fellowship, friendship and a way to get plugged in to their new area. The study group will be working through the book "After the Boxes Are Unpacked-Moving On After Moving In" by Susan Miller. Childcare will be provided. Books are available through the class. Knitting group meets Chix with Stix, a local knitting group, meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 55 Atterbury Blvd. in Hudson. Its purpose is to knit prayer shawls which are given to people who are sick. The group will provide the yarn, knitting needles (stix) and coffee.
