Letter: Says district moving in right direction

I believe that Hudson Schools administrators are putting the betterment of our students' education before themselves. The step the administrators took by initiating concessions on their own wages and benefits speaks volumes to me and is a step in the right direction in containing costs. Sharing in the sacrifice of operating an excellent school district is the right thing to do in this economy.

The superintendent has also said that he is asking for additional concessions and is implementing more cost-cutting measures. Every concession that is made and every cost-cutting measure is going to be significant in the long-term to this community. I also believe that the district is responding to its recent phone and Internet survey.

I have reviewed the survey results available on the district's website and don't agree with the writers who are faulting the schools for asking community members for their opinions. Too often in the past, I have read that the community's voice hasn't been heard. It has now. In addition, a reasonable person knows that it takes planning, preparation and thousands of calls to get the survey responses needed to be representative of the entire community, and the district was also up front about the cost on the front page of the Hub-Times.

The survey also said that people are proud of this district and want to see it succeed. But everyone involved must share the sacrifice in this most-important responsibility of educating our students. I believe there is still more work to be done, but the district is moving in right direction.
