by Tim Troglen Reporter Hudson -- Students returning from summer break will see 11 new faculty members at Western Reserve Academy and new courses and classrooms at Seton Catholic School. Classes for students in ninth through 12th grade begin Aug. 23 at Western Reserve Academy, 115 College St. The school expects 390 students this year representing 20 states and 15 countries, said Russell Morrison, director of marketing and public relations. Last year enrollment was at 391. The first ever student from Guam enrolled this year, according to Morrison. Last year, the first student from Mongolia, who is a returning senior, enrolled. WRA expanded its staff by hiring 11 new faculty members over the summer, Morrison said. They include two history teachers; an intern in history and development; a dance teacher; a biology and math teacher, a biology and environmental science teacher; a physics and chemistry teacher, a French teacher; an intern Spanish teacher; a college counselor and an English and digital communications teacher. There was no new construction, but returning students and staff will find a reduced campus speed limit this year. The city has posted signs telling motorists to slow down while driving through the WRA campus. The speed limit signs are on East Prospect Street, Chapel Street, College Street, Hudson Street and North Oviatt Street. The speed limit has been lowered from 25 mph to 20 mph. Classes at Seton Catholic School, 6923 Stow Road, will commence Aug. 25. The school houses kindergarten through eighth graders. First- through eighth-graders will begin classes Aug. 26, according to Patricia Fritz, communications director for Seton Catholic School. Kindergarten students will attend morning sessions Aug. 26 and Aug. 27. The students will attend full day classes Aug. 30, Fritch said. Enrollment is expected to be 412, Fritch said. Last year's enrollment was 409. New programs include an expanded instrumental music program; a language lab; a new math series for kindergarten through third grade; a new reading series for first and second grades; robotics for all students; a new remedial program; and an advisory program for sixth- through eighth-grade students. The school also is adding one 3,000-square-foot modular unit to house four classrooms and allow for the newly offered programs. "I am very excited about this school year and seeing all the new and returning students and families," Principal Harry Selner said. "Every year is fresh and different and I look forward to implementing our new programs." Editor's note: Hudson Montessori School officials did not return calls by press time for this story.
