Series looks at renowned artists A free educational series titled "Through the Eyes of the Artist" continues once a month on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. This monthly art history lecture series with local art historian Felicia Zavarella Stadelman uncovers details about some of the world's most renowned artists. Each presentation is enhanced with music, prints and images. Each day will focus on a different artist. The series will feature Claude Monet on Aug. 26, Michelangelo on Sept. 30, Andrew Wyeth on Oct. 28; Tamara DeLempicka on Nov. 11; and Edgar Degas on Dec. 2. Course studies Henry VIII Case Western Reserve University will offer a fall course, "Henry VIII: Was He Misunderstood?" beginning Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. The instructor for the eight week course is Case Western Reserve University Off-Campus Studies faculty member Betty Zak. Participants will explore Henry VIII 500 years after his rise to the throne, in light of his time, his court, his enemies and his friends. They will learn about the political upheavals and "hot button" issues that motivated some of his most infamous decisions. The course uses two texts: "Henry VIII: The King and His Court" by Alison Weir, and "Henry VIII: Court, Church and Conflict" by David Loades. These texts are available at local libraries or may be purchased at the Learned Owl Book Shop in Hudson. LifeCenter offers new programs for kids LifeCenter Plus, a full-service health and fitness center on Darrow Road, is adding two new programs this fall for members and non-members. The Kindermusik programs for infants and preschool children will be presented in partnership with Kindermusik at LifeCenter Plus starting Sept. 13. A brand-new After School Fitness Fun Club is a program devised by the LifeCenter Plus Kids Fitness department and is presented in cooperation with participating area schools. The LifeCenter Plus Fitness Bus picks children up after school and transports them to LifeCenter for supervised activities, including rock-climbing on LCP's indoor rock wall, dodge ball, kickball, basketball and Tae Kwon Do, among other activities. The After School Fun Club lasts from 4 to 6 p.m., with parents responsible for picking their children up at LifeCenter Plus at its conclusion. Three Kindermusik programs will be presented: Kindermusik Village for infants through 18 months of age; Kindermusik Our Time for toddlers 18 months to 3 years; and Kindermusik ABC for children 3 to 5 years. Chamber continues education series The Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce Education Series continues Sept. 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Barlow Community Center with a workshop focused on building sales. Three experts in the field will meet with small groups and offer advice on how to cultivate relationships, motivate sales teams, and boost sales.
