Hudson UMC offers new classes The Hudson United Methodist Church will kick off its new fall schedule of Sunday school classes for adults, teens, and children on Aug. 22. Seven adult classes will discuss a wide range of topics in small groups. The "Bible Moths" will focus on the book of Matthew, following a study guide by noted Methodist historian and theologian Justo L. González. "Christian Homebuilders" will discuss the best-seller "Lord, Give Me Patience!...and Give It to Me Right Now" by James W. and Bob J. Moore. Examining hypocrisy and intolerance among some believers, the "Short Topics" class will take up "When Christians Get It Wrong" by Rev. Adam Hamilton. The "Book Class" will begin a study of "The Five Languages of Apology," a guide to healing relationships by Gary Chapman. The Women's Class will look at themes of mystery, reading "Detective Stories from the Bible" by J. Ellsworth Kalas. The "Seekers" class will discuss the Christian perspective on events from the week's news, and the "Ties That Bind" class regularly examines contemporary Christian issues. Sunday school classes begin at 10 a.m., between the 9 and 11:15 services, giving everyone the opportunity to attend worship and participate in study groups. Hudson UMC also offers a full range of child- and youth-oriented classes, beginning with 3- and 4-year-olds through senior-high teens. The church is at the corner of Hudson-Aurora and Stow Roads. St. Mary offers Christian initiation program St. Mary Church in Hudson will begin its 2010-11 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program Aug. 31. This is a communal process with four key stages: * Inquiry, when those interested can learn more about the Catholic faith and ask questions; * Catechumenate -- for those who choose to remain in the RCIA process, the learning continues with a stronger focus on education and developing a deeper understanding about what it means to be Catholic; * Purification and Enlightenment -- the final steps leading up to receiving the sacraments; and * Mystagogy. During this post-initiation stage, participants explore ways to live this new life and join a new Christian community more fully. There is also a Rite of Christian Initiation of Children which runs concurrently with the adult session. Classes at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St., will begin Aug. 31 from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Call Donna Rakotci at 330-715-1262 or e-mail her at drakotci@roadrunner.com for more information.
