Hudson -- Dr. Rhett Dodson is the new senior pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church, 781 Terex Road.

Dodson was installed July 18 at the church's Sunday service.

"My purpose in coming here is to exalt the Lord's name through the preaching of His Word," Dodson said.

Dodson, 43, and his wife of 19 years, Theresa, came to Hudson from Malvern, Pa. There he served as associate pastor at the Free Presbyterian Church for more than eight years.

With a congregation of approximately 150, Grace is slightly larger than his previous church, Dodson said.

Dodson has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Bible and a Ph.D. in Old Testament Interpretation from Bob Jones University. He also has completed post doctoral studies in apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Dodson grew up in North Carolina, but his wife is a native Ohioan, growing up in a farm community between Marysville and Plain City.

Jack Buffin, a member of Grace Presbyterian Church since 1996 and a member of the pastoral search team, described Dodson as a very disciplined individual with compassion for people.

"We filtered through more than 60 candidates," Buffin said.

The search team spent nearly 11 months selecting Grace's new pastor, he reported.

"His preaching skills stood way above the other men we heard," Buffin said.

Dodson describes his ministry style as expository.

"Expository ministry opens up the Word of God, explains it and applies it," he said.

He explained apologetics as a defense of the faith.

"What the Bible says is true," Dodson said. "The Bible gives us a comprehensive view of what life is really like. It is an ancient book but it is relevant and coherent."

The church community has been "enormously warm and welcoming," he said. "They have been very encouraging and very receptive to the Word of God."

He described Hudson as a friendly, beautiful town and a wonderful place to live.

Dodson succeeds senior pastor Kreg Bryan who served for more than three years. Bryan left for a position at a Christian school in another community.

Dodson's goal?

"Win all of Hudson for Christ," he said.
