Willem H. Adams, 68, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 24, 2010, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Raised in the Netherlands, Mr. Adams was educated in Switzerland and France but called Northeast Ohio home for more than 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willem and Adrianna Adams of Como, Italy, and sister, Leonora of Rome, Italy.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Hudson; daughter, Kate (Kevin) Srigley of Pittsburgh; son, Willem (Emily) Adams of Colorado Springs; step-daughter, Laurie Hagy of Hudson; step-son, Michael (Janeen) Yacovone of Shaker Heights; grandchildren, Jack and Sarah Srigley, Lucy Adams, Megan and Kyle Hagy, Ava, Luciano and Nina Yacovone; niece, Fiamma Castorina; and nephew, Fabio Triticucci.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends, including the Starbucks regulars, Towpath tennis partners, the Rev. Russ Howard and members of Hudson Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Adams held management positions with Goodyear, Firestone, Shaffer Pens and Myers Industries. His greatest professional satisfaction came from growing his own company, Akron Overseas, by expanding its export network and developing clients and friends all over the world. He spoke five languages fluently.

An avid tennis player and sports car aficionado, Mr. Adams owned the area's first Mazda Miata which he customized and raced at Mid-Ohio and other venues. He was active in Northeast Ohio's Dutch community, especially enjoying the Queen's Birthday Party each year at Stan Hywet. He always had a stash of some of his favorite Dutch treats at home. He was involved in activities at Hudson Presbyterian Church including missionary work in Mexico.

A celebration of Willem's life will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Hudson Presbyterian Church, 201 W. Streetsboro St.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106, or Hospice of the Western Reserve 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119-1330.
