Officials investigating third major burglary in a month

Hudson -- Police are investigating the third major burglary in a month after a Stow Road home was entered and more than $88,000 in items were removed sometime between July 23 and July 26 while the residents were vacationing.

A family member from Stow was checking on the house July 26 while the family members were vacationing and discovered a first floor rear door and side window were broken, according to police records. When he entered he noted the house had been ransacked and broken glass was on the floor.

More than $70,000 in jewelry, along with three large screen TVs, a disc player, AM/FM stereo radio, game system and video games were taken.

Damage to the door and window was estimated at $4,500.

A canvas of neighbors by police indicated one resident had observed two new pickup trucks at the residence over the weekend, according to the police report.

Investigation into this burglary is continuing as well as investigations into burglaries July 4 on Dunbarton Drive and July 12 on Middleton Road.

A similar method of entry and the time of the day of the burglaries indicate they could be related, according to a police spokesperson.

Domestic violence

Aug. 2. Woman slapped: A 34-year-old Hudson man was arrested and charged with domestic violence after he allegedly slapped the 43-year-old woman he was living with during a domestic dispute.

He was taken to Summit County Jail.

Possession of drugs /
drug paraphernalia

Aug. 1. Suspicious activity: A Hudson resident reported suspicious activity in a car in a parking lot of a Darrow Road business shortly before 11 p.m.

According to the police report, an investigation revealed a 19-year-old Hudson man had two small bags of suspected marijuana and one suspected marijuana cigarette in his possession.

He was charged with possession of drugs and released. A 20-year-old Hudson man also was cited for underage consumption of alcohol and released.

July 31. Drug residue, tube found: A 21-year-old Hudson man was stopped for speeding at 5:14 p.m. on state Route 303 and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia -- a plastic tube with a residue of suspected marijuana in it.

According to the police report, he was cited for traveling 64 mph in a 45 mph zone and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released at the scene.

Criminal mischief

July 31. Vehicle covered with shaving cream: A Nicholson Drive resident said some someone covered his daughter's vehicle with shaving cream while it was parked in the driveway. It was discovered shortly before midnight.

The cost to clean up the vehicle was placed at $25.

July 31. Yard covered with toilet paper: A Haymarket Way resident said someone littered his property with toilet paper and set off two Drano bombs sometime between 1:30 and 2:10 a.m.

According to a police spokesperson, a third Drano bottle bomb, placed on the home's deck, did not explode.No damage was reported.

Trespassing

Aug. 1. Man gathering firewood: An officer on patrol spotted a 53-year-old Hudson man trespassing on private property at 3:43 p.m. on North Terex Road owned by a Cleveland firm.

The man was taking firewood from the property, according to the police report. The owner of the property declined prosecution and the man was not cited.

Breaking and entering

July 31. Alarm brings police: An alarm in a business on Darrow Road brought patrol officers shortly after midnight.

Police found a broken rear door window, but no suspects were on the premises, according to the police report. Nothing was reported missing.

Littering

July 27. Debris dumped on property: A St. Ives Boulevard resident said someone dumped two piles of wood and tree debris on his property sometime between July 20 and 27.

It will cost the property owner $200 to have the debris removed, according to the report.

Suspicious vehicle

July 28. Resident calls police: A resident called police after she noted a suspicious vehicle parked in her driveway on Fox Trace Lane.

Officers located the vehicle owner, a man doing repair work at a residence next door. The vehicle was moved. The man said he parked in the driveway by mistake.

Driving under suspension

Aug. 1. No valid license: A 35-year-old Akron man was stopped for speeding on Hudson Drive at 9:46 p.m.

Officers discovered the man's license was suspended and never renewed.

The man was cited and released for traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone, and driving with no valid license.

His vehicle was impounded. Police transported the man and his passenger to a service station in Stow to await a ride, according to the police report.
