Akron - A Summit County Common Pleas Court judge will not overturn the guilty plea of a former Hudson man serving 23 years to life in prison for murdering his wife in 2006.

Judge Lynne S. Callahan denied the motion of 36-year-old Joseph D. Gorospe on July 30.

Gorospe, who pleaded guilty to murdering his wife in 2007, asked the court to allow him to withdraw the plea, saying he did not understand his right to defend himself nor that he would face a mandatory five years of parole after his release.

“Gorospe’s affidavits are ever changing, each one offering whatever information he feels suits his legal needs at that particular time,” Callahan said in court records. “At best, they are self serving. At worst they represent the desperate attempts of a man who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.”

Gorospe pleaded guilty in 2007 to murder, kidnapping, tampering with evidence and domestic violence in the death of his wife, Marci Kornblut, in their Plantation Drive home.
