Residents play on links
Several Hudson residents competed in a Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf Kenny Novak qualifier with a three-over-par 75 (38-37) July 12 at Rawiga Country Club in Seville.
Boys (age 16 to 19): Benjamin Drew, 29th, 88 (42-46); and Christopher Garcia, tied for 34th, 93 (50-43)
Boys (13-15): Alan Zhang, tied for eighth, 82 (40-42); and Nolan Podmore, tied for 17th, 92 (46-46)
Girls (16-19): Natalie Goodson, tied for seventh, 89 (46-43); and Miriam Remmers, 15th, 100 (53-47)
Stroup fares well
Hudson resident Jackson Stroup placed second in the 15-and-younger age group and 10th overall with a 147 (72-75) in the Ohio Junior Amateur at Riviera Golf Club in Dublin.
Stroup also finished first with a two-under-par 69 in the boys 14-15 age group in the North Coast Junior Tour’s event recently at Stonewater Golf Course in Highland Heights.
Yacovazzi places fifth
Four Hudson residents competed at the Portage County Amateur, which concluded July 25 at Aurora Golf Club.
Open division: Anthony Yacovazzi, fifth, 154; and Tom Jalbert, 13th, 165
Seniors: Randy Steele, third, 120; and Tim Swinda, tied for 10th, 125 (this division was cut to 27 holes dues to the weather)
Schoenman reaches base
Hudson resident Mitch Schoenman had a single during the Brownlee Lookouts Baseball Academy travel team’s 11-5 loss to the Western Illinois Hawks recently in the first game of the Buckeye Elite Tournament in Columbus.
Duo set to run
Hudson residents Samuel Pak and Carson Heiner are scheduled to compete in the Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run at Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
