Hudson -- More than $40,000 in items were stolen in a pair of recent unrelated burglaries. A Hudson Drive resident said someone forced open a rear first floor door of his home and stole more than $25,000 in items sometime between 8 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. July 16 when he was away from home. A complete list of valuables was not provided, but a partial list of missing items included a $300 rifle, a $150 shotgun, a $450 gold pocket watch, a $3,000 coin collection, a $600 diamond necklace, a $9,000 diamond ring, an $8,000 wedding ring, a $300 diamond bracelet, a $900 engagement ring, a $900 diamond ring, a $1,100 gun safe, a $200 safe, a $150 diamond and sapphire watch, $500 diamond earrings and a $100 gold bracelet. Five other guns and rifles of undetermined value were also reported stolen. Damage to the door and window were estimated at $400. Meanwhile, a Middleton Road couple returned home July 19 after a four-day absence to find their home had been ransacked and $17,254 in items had been stolen. Entry was gained by breaking a first floor door, according to the police report. Items stolen included a TV, a blu ray disc player, a sound system, 29 pieces of gold and diamond jewelry, tools, a video camera, miscellaneous food items, a wallet, a purse and several credit cards. Investigations are pending. Police say the burglaries are not related. Theft July 19. Bike stolen: A Bard Drive resident said a $359 men's bike was removed from the backyard of the residence sometime between July 15 and 18. July 14. Digital camera taken: A Barlow Road resident said someone took a $400 camera from the woods on his property. According to a police spokesperson, the camera was left there by the resident to photograph a suspected trespasser in the act. July 15. Candy stolen: A Darrow Road drugstore employee said three individuals took $9.63 in candy bars from the premises without paying for them. The store manager declined to prosecute after the three Hudson residents paid for the purchase and were banned from the store in the future. The three males were 16, 17 and 18. July 17. Groceries taken: A 38-year-old Hudson man was taken to Summit County Jail after he was arrested and charged with theft at a West Streetsboro Street store. According to the police report, store security detained the man after he left the store with $615 in groceries without paying. Items included alcoholic beverages, steak, shrimp and crab legs. July 17. Work paid for, not done: A Baldwin Street resident said a Tallmadge contractor was paid $975 for work which was never begun. According to a police spokesperson, the contractor was advised by police of the accusations and made arrangements to make restitution to the homeowner. July 13. Icy Hot taken: An employee of a store on Darrow Road said a male teenager took a $3.49 package of Icy Hot without paying for it. Police were unable to locate the youth, according to the police report. Misuse of a credit card July 13. Credit card used without authorization: An Ashbrooke Way resident said someone used her credit card to make $1,431 in purchases without authorization. Operating a vehicle
July 16. Woman charged in ATV accident: A 40-year-old Hudson woman was arrested and charged with operating an all-terrain vehicle while intoxicated on a Valley View property and having a blood alcohol content of .275. Ohio's legal limit is .08. Police were notified after EMS was called to the scene to treat a 37-year-old Cleveland woman, a passenger on the ATV, who was injured when the vehicle hit a tree. The Cleveland woman was taken to a local hospital. There was no report on the exact nature of her injuries. The Hudson woman was taken to the Hudson Police Department. She was later released on a personal recognizance bond. Lost July 13. Valuable rings lost: An employee of a Hudson Industrial Parkway firm said he dropped his wife's wedding band and engagement ring, possibly in the firm's parking lot. According to the police report, the man told police he was taking the rings, valued at $6,300, to a safety deposit box for safekeeping.
