by Laura Freeman Reporter Hudson -- The police force will replace three old cruisers with three new ones if Council approves legislation later this month. The police department would like to replace three 2007 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptors with three 2010 models, said Police Chief David Robbins. The city has budgeted $66,000 for the purchase in the fleet fund, Robbins said. Statewide Ford in Van Wert is the lowest bidder at $22,243 per vehicle, which includes the purchase price, delivery, title and police package custom features. Delivery would be expected in two to four months, Robbins said. The three 2007 cruisers each have more than 100,000 miles. "We look at how high the mileage is and how much they're costing us in repairs," Robbins said. The fleet department would use the older vehicles if possible or auction them, Robbins said. The police department maintains 10 marked black and white police cars, which are rotated between shifts to balance mileage on the cars, Robbins said. An extra marked car is not a front line vehicle but is used with a speed board, which has built-in radar and shows drivers how fast they are going. "We park it where we have had complaints about speeding," Robbins said. The legislation could be on the July 21 Council agenda. E-mail: lfreeman@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3150 Comments
