Celebrate National
Hershey's of Hudson is celebrating National Ice Cream Month in July. On July 18, National Ice Cream Day, Hershey's will host "Have a Sundae on Sunday Day." All proceeds from this day will go to orphaned children in Ghana, Africa. In l984 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. The third Sunday of July is National Ice Cream Day. "Ice cream has become a part of our life enjoyments," says psychologist Michael Freedman, Hershey's owner. "We enjoy ice cream as a treat, as a reward, or as a comfort." The history of ice cream may have started in China around 200 BC, Freedman said. There are indications that Roman emperor Nero, Marco Polo and King Charles I all enjoyed frozen cream treats. Today's ice cream was first made by American Nancy Johnson, who invented the hand cranked ice cream maker in 1846. Comments
