Hudson -- A Middleton Road couple discovered July 4 that burglars had ransacked their home while they were away. According to the police report, a first floor door was forced open to gain access. A Toyota truck was stolen along with miscellaneous items including two television sets, several piece of jewelry, a DVD player, a dog bed, computer, and a kitchen rug. A complete estimate of items missing was not available but preliminary figures indicate the loss was more than $28,000. An investigation is pending. Burglary July 4. House burglarized: A Dunbarton Drive resident said the residence was burglarized sometime before July 4 while they were on vacation. According to the police report, a first floor door was forced open to gain entry. Stolen were a $4,000 54-inch television, a $1,000 laptop computer, and a $250 LCD computer monitor. Damage to the door was estimated at $500. June 30. TV stolen: An Edgar Drive resident said his $599 television was taken sometime during the hours of 5:30 and 10:50 a.m. while he was away from home. According to the report, a first floor door was forced open. Theft July 2. Items stolen from yard: A Ravenna Street resident said someone stole scrap items from his yard sometime between 6:30 and 9 a.m. According to the police report, $200 in scrap aluminum, $1,300 in scrap copper, a $5 water heater, a $10 refrigerator and a $10 weed-whacker was stolen. July 2. Prescription drugs taken: An Ogilby Drive resident said someone entered his home and removed prescription drugs totaling $406. According to the police report, there was no sign of forced entry. July 2. Pills stolen from vehicle: A Cuyahoga Falls woman said a $50 bottle of percocet was taken from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked at a lot on Darrow Road from 2:15 to 4 p.m. Disorderly conduct July 4. Father creating disturbance: A 26-year-old Ravenna Road woman said her 49-year-old father was in the parking lot of the Hilltop Motel trying to entice her boyfriend, 38, into a fight shortly after midnight. According to a police spokesperson, police urged the father to return to his residence and he complied. No charges were filed. Animal complaints July 4. Neighbor's cat eating birds: A Winslow Drive resident said a neighbor's cat keeps coming into her yard to eat birds. July 4. Cat shot: A Leeway Drive resident said someone shot her cat with a BB gun at 6:30 p.m. According to the police report, the cat was not seriously wounded but required medical attention. An investigation is pending. Counterfeiting July 3. Youth pays with counterfeit bill: An employee of a West Streetsboro restaurant notified police after a 17-year-old male from Virginia provided a fake $20 bill in payment for a food order at a drive-up window. According to a police spokesperson, police arrived as the youth was waiting for his order. The youth claimed not to be aware of the fake bill. He had other bills in his possession but none were counterfeit. No charges were filed. Operating a vehicle
July 4. Hudson man arrested: A 21-year-old Hudson man was arrested and charged with failing to observe lane markings, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and having a blood alcohol content of .097. The legal BAC limit in Ohio is .08. The man was arrested on Prospect Street at 2:20 a.m. He was taken to the Hudson Police Department and later released on a personal recognizance bond. His vehicle was towed. Vehicular assault July 2. Two girls hit by car: A Carriage Hill resident said her 13-year-old daughter and her 14-year-old girlfriend were hit by a car as they were riding their bicycles on Darrow Road at 4:30 p.m. According to a police spokesperson, the driver was pulling into Darrow Road traffic from a drive-through when his vehicle struck both girls' bicycles. They were knocked to the ground and suffered minor injuries -- scrapes and bruises. The driver of the vehicle stopped his car and asked if the girls were OK then drove away.
