The Western Reserve Academy Fine and Performing Arts Department will be making music this spring break in March in cities visited by the very composers whose music they will be performing. The group will embark on a performance tour in Rome, Venice and Florence, Italy. In addition to performing, the group will have the opportunity to enrich their experience by visiting local landmarks. The students have prepared for the tour by practicing together daily, performing in contests and concerts, culminating in the annual Madrigal Mid-Winter Feaste performances as their sole fundraiser for this tour. Nearly half of all WRA students are members of the fined and performing arts groups which include the Choir, Orchestra, Symphonic Winds and Jazz Band. These performing groups present a wide and varied concert series each year, often combining forces to present large masterworks. Recent performances have included the Mozart Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Orff's Carmina Burana and Vivaldi's Four Seasons, in addition to the annual WRA Messiah Sing. Many alumni of the fine arts program continue to perform at some of the finest colleges and conservatories in the nation. The WRA Choir and Ensemble has performed in venues across the world including the Beijing Conservatory and St. Charleskirche in Vienna, Austria. Comments
