Kings and Queens The evening was reminiscent of an '80s power ballad -- mas fuerte yet also tender and loving. Chuck and Shiela Packard wowed the crowd with Kathy's Crabbies, an amazing artichoke dip, an array of cheese, an assortment of cocktail meatballs, grilled eggplant and cookies, not to mention the wide variety of potent potables and beverages. Judy Dimizio slaughtered the score sheet with an unbelievable 3,600 score. Judy and Fred Wolking were top pair, too, but the K and Q charter mandated that the award go to second highest couple, which in this instance was the Packards. The highest couple award was well deserved as Chuck Packard took all 13 tricks after bidding a small slam. Crazy Eights The Crazy Eights played at Debbie Sergi's home on Jan. 5. The girls always love the Sergi party, but during the holidays there's the Panettone bonus on the dessert table. It's Italian, not too sweet and downright delicious. The lazy fire offset the lively play and conversation. Sally McArn took first with 2,150 points, while Marianne Oberlin finished a close second. Double Deckers Mary MacCallum welcomed the Double Deckers for a jam-packed afternoon of bridge and levity. The Deckers hadn't met since November, but Monika Ferencz managed to remember all the rules and outscored everyone with 3,090 points. Super sub, Lu Ann Hanink, was edged at the tape with her score of 3,080. Diamonds in the Ruff Debbie Sergi also hosted the December meeting of the Ruffers. Besides the wonderful Panettone (mentioned above) Debbie provided a snappy artichoke spinach dip, yummy cheeses, and a decedent coconut cake. The meeting also featured an ornament gift exchange. Kim Peller brought home the holiday gold followed by Linda Kardish jingling silver bells. Linda Kardish hosted the January gathering which featured Linda's favorite (and famous) asiago cheese dip. Linda also managed to successfully bid and complete a small slam with Lisa Brummer. Linda rode the slam to first place with Phyllis Hopkins placing a distant second. Second Tuesday Duplicate Shirley Russell entertained on a bone chillingly cold January afternoon. The crackling fire so incredibly picturesque it was almost cliche. The Tuesday troupe buckled down and engaged in spirited play. Rita Frantz prevailed on sure grit while Marilyn Waltz chased Rita for second place. Barbara Breeden and Marilyn Fish tied for third.
