KSU fraternity raises for $.A.F.E. program

Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting and finance fraternity at Kent State University, sponsored its first winter Olympics on March 4 to help raise funds for $.A.F.E., a new financial education program of Family and Community Services Inc.

The proceeds from the event went to the $.A.F.E. program to aid in its efforts in offering free financial education classes.

BAP has been involved with the $.A.F.E. program since September 2009. The fraternity helped create the curriculum. It also dedicated its time and resources to helping certify $.A.F.E. volunteer teachers and sponsor fundraising events.

BAP plans to use their involvement $.A.F.E. for a best practices competition at the annual regional meeting. According to Hudson resident Lauren Lampley, BAP's Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants Ambassador, the regions chapters attend a meeting in Chicago and give presentations in categories of "best practices" and "operational." If the Kent chapter wins the best practices competition they will move on to the national competition in San Jose, Calif.

$.A.F.E. is comprised of three classes: Basic Budgets, Credit 101, and Credit Report Education.

March classes will be in Rootstown, Kent and Ravenna.
