Hudson Community Education and Recreation will offer the following new classes beginning the weeks of March 15 and 22. For information about these, or any HCER classes, visit www.hudson.edu/hcer. Online registration is available for all programs. Safe Babysitter Class teaches sixth- through eighth-graders home and toy safety, skills on how to handle infant and child choking, and some basic first aid. Class meets March 20 from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Hudson Middle School. Participants should bring a sack lunch. Hudson Chess Championship is an opportunity to play chess in a tournament environment. Designed for students in grades one through 12, there will be a chess instruction class for participants just prior to the tournament. Trophies will be awarded for each grade. The tournament will be March 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hudson High School media center. East Woods Splash Party for fourth- and fifth-graders will be March 19 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the East Woods pool. The Hawaiian-themed pool party will include pizza afterward. A lifeguard will be on duty at all times. The following HCER SchoolzOut programs take place over Hudson City Schools spring break. Children in grades kindergarten through six can attend one or all of the programs. Before and after care is available. Dropoff and pickup is at the East Woods School Blue Gym. The third annual Hawaiian Pool Party will be March 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at East Woods. Activities include swimming, lunch, door prizes, crafts and more. Laser Quest and Lunch on March 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. includes two games of tag at Laser Quest in Fairlawn. Activities include karaoke, video games, air hockey and lunch from Donatos. A trip to Canal Fulton Glass Works and lunch will be offered March 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will leave at 9:30 a.m. to see a demonstration of glass blowing and tour the glass museum, following by lunch from Sisters Century House. A trip to the Akron Marble Museum and lunch will take place April 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Every child will receive a bag of marbles to take home. Lunch will be at Subway. A trip to the Akron Zoo and lunch will be offered April 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Comments
