by Dorothy Markulis Reporter Hudson -- The Clipperie of Hudson is celebrating 20 years of service to the community this year. Maureen Baumgardner, owner and operator, credits the salon's longevity to her employees. "They're wonderful. Some of us have been together for decades. We're a good group of friends with strong work ethics," Baumgardner said. Baumgardner opened her shop at 5835 Darrow Road in 1996, moving there from her first location in the Acme Plaza. The business has grown from five employees to 10. The salon offers all the amenities of a spa: manicures, pedicures, hair styling, facials, make-up and massage. "I started this shop from scratch. It was just a shell when I moved here," she said. "Now it's trendy, but it's comfortable." According to Baumgardner, many of the salon's clients have been regulars for many years. "Our clients are like family to us," she said. Baumgardner, a 1974 graduate of Stow High School, has added a new feature to The Clipperie -- the "Afterthoughts Boutique." The boutique features the work of 16 local artists displaying handcrafted items, including gifts, greeting cards and other personal items. The Clipperie employs 10, including, Baumgardner who has been in the beauty business since she graduated from high school in 1974. "I started working in Hudson right after I graduated from high school in a small shop in the Acme Plaza arcade. That's not even there anymore," she said. "We specialize in making you look fabulous using the highest quality natural products," Baumgardner said. According to Baumgardner, The Clipperie's goal is to develop a client's outer beauty by getting to know the client's inner beauty.
