Tennis club opens March 20 The Hudson Tennis Club's first event of the season will be its annual Spring Fling at the Western Reserve Racquet and Fitness Club on March 20 from 7 to 11 p.m. The entry fee is $10 for club members and $15 for non-members. Players should bring an appetizer to share. Beverages will be available. Garden Club learns about growing garlic Fred and Chris Thaxton will present "Growing Garlic Sustainably" to Hudson Garden Club members and guests March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community. A social time starts at 7. The Thaxtons are both high school teachers of environmental sciences. They have used their knowledge to develop healthy soils and the chemistry of creating healthy crops. The Thaxtons began growing their first garlic for family and friends in 2000. Today they supply area clients and can be seen at local farmers markets in season. On March 18, they will talk about growing organic garlic on their farm. The program will address how to grow garlic, best conditions, varieties, their uses and the basics of harvesting and storage. For more information, call Mary Gallo at 330-620-8970. Preschool Parents Hudson Preschool Parents will host its spring party March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at McDowell Elementary School. It will include games, crafts and a visit from "The Bubble Lady." The Preschool Parents will take a field trip to the Hudson library March 16 to see Audrey Hylton share some cooking techniques and spring recipes. Kids will participate hands-on and will taste all recipes. Sessions are 10 to 11 a.m., or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Leprechaun Jeff Reid will entertain the group March 17 at 10 a.m. at the library. He will help celebrate St. Patrick's Day with juggling, magic and a puppet show. Hudson Preschool Parents will participate in Week of the Young Child field trips April 12 to 16. The free event provides informational tables, entertainment, food and more to HPP members and the general public. Stroke survivors The next meeting of the Stroke Survivors Group will be at 2 p.m. March 17 in the Mixing Place at Laurel Lake Retirement Community. Society of Artists The Hudson Society of Artists will meet March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Barlow Community Center for a demonstration by Paul St. Denis. Society of Artists hosts members show The Hudson Society of Artists presents its 12th annual Members Show in March at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through March 26.The show will include professional artists and developing members of the club.
Hunt for eggs at Boston Heights Fire Station The Fairview Cemetery Association will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt for children 12 and under March 27 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Boston Heights Fire Station, 15 E. Boston Mills Road. The Easter Bunny will visit. The event includes an egg hunt, refreshments, coloring contest and raffle. Floral designer speaks to Garden Club Lisa Madel, floral designer, will speak on unique spring container ideas at the Woman's Club of Hudson meeting April 5 at 1 p.m. at the Hudson Library and Historical Society. Madel is owner of Green Thumb Design, a container gardening business. She has operated this business for 10 years. She works as a private gardener for some of Hudson's most exclusive gardens and is employed as a floral designer at Seasons Floral and More. Tea will follow the program.
