It was good to see that the school expenses will be cut by $1 million dollars. It would appear that if that much could be cut that fast that there must be more fat in the budget if they dig deeper. How about $4 million more? At our home we are not blessed with the option of asking anyone for more money when our costs go up. Our utilities, insurance, gasoline, food, medical and clothing have all gone up. In fact, everything we purchase has increased in cost over the last few years. Those of us who had our pensions disappear must rely on what we have saved and Social Security. Bank interest rates along with the devastation to the stock market and with no increase in Social Security benefits to help pay for the increase in Medicare has pushed us deeper into the hole. Why we are so generous with our city and school employees particularly concerning fringe benefits I do not understand. I worked 45 years in heavy industry and never was treated to these employer-paid fringes. We are stretched about as far as we can go, so our next step is to sell our home in Hudson, which we love, and move to another community. Ron Humphrey Hudson Comments
