Hudson -- It's time to put away the books, turn off the cell phone, keep the computer screen dark and kick back for a night of family fun.

It may sound like a step backwards into a technological time machine but it's not -- it's the sixth annual Ready-Set-Relax, scheduled for March 11 and sponsored by Hudson Community First with a grant by the Hudson Community Foundation.

"Ready-Set-Relax stresses no homework and no after-school activities, promoting the opportunity to spend more time with your family for one night during the school year," said Laura Zaleski of Hudson Community First.

As in years past, the schools are stressing no homework on that day. In addition, Hudson Community First is encouraging parents and students to turn off video games, TVs, computers and cell phones from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hudson Community First, Hudson City Schools, Western Reserve Academy, Hudson Montessori School, Seton Catholic, Hudson Community Education and Recreation, and more than 30 other organizations are participating the power down and relax time.

"This activity focuses on strengthening family relationships," Zaleski said. "Ready-Set-Relax gives families a break from the hectic after school activity pace."

Laura Gasbarro, co-director of Hudson Community First said this is the sixth year for the program.

She said March 11 was chosen after a meeting with school officials to see which day "fits into the school calendar."

Hudson Community First started Ready-Set-Relax as part of its mission to promote positive youth development, Zaleski said.

"Hudson Community First seeks to unite individuals, organizations and our schools in an effort to nurture competent caring and responsible children and adolescents," she said.
