Name: Janet Rhodes

Age: 52

Occupation: I am the owner of Janet Rhodes brings you Fair Trade and a United Church of Christ minister

How long have you worked in Hudson? My store opened Sept. 5, 2009

What is your favorite thing to do in Hudson? Strolling down Main Street -- and it's not just because I love my store and my neighbors. I love walking and shopping at the Farmers Market. I love the dazzle of the Taste of Hudson. I love the squeals of delight from the children during the Halloween Trick or Treat. I love the communal spirit during the Christmas holidays. There's just nothing like downtown Hudson.

How would you describe Hudson to someone who has never been here? From my experience so far, I've found Hudson to be a community filled with devoted citizens, a rich heritage, excellent schools, superb dining, Actors' Summit Theater and great shopping.

What would you do if you were city manager for a day? If I had a day to manage the city, I would invite everyone to come down to the Green asking each to bring something of value to them that they want to share with the community. Preferably it would not be of significant monetary value, but rather would be something that indicated their appreciation for Hudson. We would have five artists at the Green creating a sculpture from these gifts. The sculpture would be meant for outdoor viewing, but not meant to last into perpetuity -- simply a day of thanks for this wonderful town we call home, whether in residence or work.

What do you like to do in your free time? Gardening, cooking, reading, sitting by a fire, having long conversations with my children.

Are you a member of any clubs or organizations? Merchants of Hudson; Hudson Chamber of Commerce; Eastern Ohio Association United Church of Christ

What is your favorite movie or television show? This may sound corny -- but I love "The Sound of Music." I love the music, the honesty of family turmoils, the struggle with faith, the commitment to justice and finding love when you least expect it.

What is the last book you read? And I have loved reading through "Musical Chairs on Main Street" and considering all the hundreds of people who have lived and worked in these buildings and all the different ways that the community has been served by store owners along Main Street.

What is your favorite vacation spot? Seeing the spring bluebonnets in Texas and the fall foliage in Vermont.

Whom do you admire most, excluding relatives? What can I say? No one comes close to my mother.
