Preschool Parents
host spring party

Hudson Preschool Parents will host its spring party March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at McDowell Elementary School. It will include games, crafts and a visit from "The Bubble Lady."

The Preschool Parents will take a field trip to the Hudson library March 16 to see Audrey Hylton share some cooking techniques and spring recipes. Kids will participate hands-on and will taste all recipes. Sessions are 10 to 11 a.m., or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Leprechaun Jeff Reid will entertain the group March 17 at 10 a.m. at the library. He will help celebrate St. Patrick's Day with juggling, magic and a puppet show.

Hudson Preschool Parents will participate in Week of the Young Child field trips April 12 to 16. Visit www.hudsonpreschoolparents.org to register by March 12.

The group's 25th annual Children's Fair will take place April 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Woods. The free event provides informational tables, entertainment, food and more to HPP members and the general public.

Tennis club prepares for March 19 opening

The Hudson Tennis Club is accepting memberships for the summer 2010 season with lower rates for those who join before March 20.

Applications are available at www.hudsontennisclub.net and must be mailed with check payment to Karine Van Dijck, 31 Strattford Rd, Hudson OH 44236.

The club's first event of the 2010 season, the annual Spring Fling, will be at the Western Reserve Racquet and Fitness Club on March 20 from 7 to 11 p.m. The entry fee is $10 for 2010 Hudson Tennis Club members and $15 for Non-members. Bring an appetizer to share. Water, sports drinks, soda, wine and beer will be available.

Membership rates through March 19 are $45 for a single person, $70 for a family, $35 for a single person 62 and older, $60 for a senior couple, and $35 for those 18 and younger.

Garden Club learns about growing garlic

Fred and Chris Thaxton will present "Growing Garlic Sustainably" to Hudson Garden Club members and guests March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community. A social time starts at 7.

The Thaxtons are both high school teachers of environmental sciences. They have used their knowledge to develop healthy soils and the chemistry of creating healthy crops. The Thaxtons began growing their first garlic for family and friends in 2000. Today they supply area clients and can be seen at local farmers markets in season.

On March 18, they will talk about growing organic garlic on their farm. The program will address how to grow garlic, best conditions, varieties, their uses and the basics of harvesting and storage.

Gettysburg is topic
at luncheon

The Ezekial Richardson Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century will have a luncheon meeting at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, on March 15 at noon. Reservations may be made with Libby Erwin, 122 S. Hayden Parkway by March 10.

Dianne Hall Allison, president, will lead the opening ceremonies and conduct a short business meeting, which will include a report on the 50th Anniversary Conference of the Ohio Society Colonial Dames that was in Springfield last month.

David Allison will present the program, "Human Interest Stories About Gettysburg." The residents of Laurel Lake and the community are invited to hear his talk at 1:30 p.m. in the community room.

Allison, a Cuyahoga Falls native and graduate of the University of Akron, spent his entire career in information technology for Aircraft Braking Systems, formerly known as Goodyear Aerospace.

In retirement he and his wife, Dianne, sell Civil War maps, photos and other related items at Civil War shows around the country.

Allison belongs to several Civil War Round Tables, Sons of Union Veterans, Lafayette Chapter Sons of American Revolution and other organizations.

to meet March 15

The Hudson Society of Artists will meet March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Barlow Community Center for a demonstration by Paul St. Denis.

Society of Artists hosts members show

Hudson Society of Artists presents its 12th annual Members Show during the month of March at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community, at 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The show will run through March 26.
