Women's conference planned for March 20

Grace Presbyterian Church will offer its 2010 Women's Conference March 20 at Sheraton Suites, 1989 Front St. in Cuyahoga Falls.

The event will feature speaker Susan Hunt.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. March 20, and the event runs until 3 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, which includes continental breakfast and lunch.

St. Mary serves
Lenten dinners

The Men's Club of St. Mary Church sponsor its Lenten Seafood Dinners on Fridays through March 26.

The dinners are served in the lower hall of St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St. in Hudson. Doors open at 5 p.m.; the last order is taken at 7:30 p.m.

Pastor to teach about Gospel of John

The Rev. Sue Tinker of the Presbyterian Church of Hudson (PCUSA) will preach through Lent from the Gospel of John regarding the death and raising of Lazarus. Worship beings at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School begins at 9:15 am in Parish Hall.

Lenten Reflections are Wednesdays at 6 p.m. with a covered dish dinner followed at 6:45 by a discussion about Christian values in a global world. The public is welcome.

The Chancel Choir will practice at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel following Lenten Reflections.

After Hours will meet at 9 p.m. Thursdays. Refreshments will be provided.

Lenten breakfast
is March 13

The men's group at Brotherhood of St. Andrews will sponsor its annual Lenten Breakfast March 13 at 8 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson. Men and their sons, teenage or older, from the Hudson area are invited.

The featured speaker will be Hudson Mayor William Currin, who will discuss the Northeast Ohio Regional Prosperity Initiative.

The cost is $5, payable at the door. Proceeds will benefit outreach programs in the area.

Hudson rabbi leads Judaism program

The Kent Unitarian Universalist Church and the Kent United Church of Christ, two remaining branches of the church of the Pilgrims, are joining for a year-long study of the faith traditions in our community. This group will explore the beliefs, rituals and sacred spaces of the three Abrahamic faiths, starting in March with the first monotheism, Judaism.

During this series of presentations open to the community, there will be time for visiting services, dialogue with guest scholars and personal reflections from members.

Remaining presentations in the series include a Shabbat service with Rabbi Sheldon Ezring at Temple Beth Shalom, 50 Division St. in Hudson, March 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Rituals and Holidays with Rabbi John Spitzer on March 14 at the Unitarian Universalist Church; and Judaisms Today: Orthodox & Liberal March 21 at the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Church hosts workshops on Mary

St. Mary Catholic Church in Hudson will host two workshops titled "The Blessed Mother: Views from Scripture and Many Cultures," March 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Presented by the Rev. Francois Rossier, executive director of the Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute at the University of Dayton, the afternoon workshop will explore recent studies of Mary in scripture.

The evening presentation will illustrate different cultural perceptions of Mary and showcase artifacts in the Marian Library collection, including statutes, artwork and embroideries from all over the world. The presentations are part of St. Mary's year-long 150th anniversary celebration.

Akron church to
install minister

The Rev. Timothy Temerson will be installed as the 20th settled minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron at a special service March 14 at 4 p.m. The church, at 3300 Morewood Road in Akron, called Temerson as settled minister on April 26 after a two-year interim and search period.

The installation service begins with a formal procession by area UU ministers, local clergy and UUCA's former minister, the Rev. Nancy O. Arnold.

Temerson received his master's degree from MIT and began his ministerial studies at Andover Newton Theological School in 2004. He interned with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and First Parish in Lexington, Mass., and was ordained as a UU Minister in May 2009.
