Sam Koebley of Hudson was inducted into the Order of Gownsmen at the University of the South during the Opening Day Convocation on Jan. 26. Since 1875 the Order of Gownsmen has remained the body responsible for maintaining the spirit, tradition and ideals of the University of the South. The wearing of the gown is both a sign of academic achievement and a promise to continue the ideals and traditions of the university. -:-:-:- Jeffrey M. Nairne of Peninsula has been named to the dean's list at Waynesburg University for the fall term 2009. Nairne is pursuing a bachelor of science in business administration degree in sports management. He is a Walsh Jesuit High School graduate. He is a member of the Waynesburg Men's Basketball Team and the son of Terri (Finch) and Jerry Nairne of Peninsula. -:-:-:- Jacob Frego of Hudson was among six students at Archbishop Hoban High School who have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. as Finalists. These students were among nearly 16,000 semifinalists out of 1.5 million seniors from across the nation, representing those scoring in the 99th percentile of all who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. -:-:-:- Adam D'Alexander, son of Richard D'Alexander and Ann Killian of Hudson, was named to the dean's list at Ithaca College's School of Music for the fall 2009 semester with a GPA of 3.5. -:-:-:- The Grove City College dean's list for the fall semester 2009 includes: Kaitlin Kline, majoring in English, a 2007 graduate of Hudson High School and the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Kline of Hudson; Jonathan Althausen, majoring in electrical engineering, a 2007 graduate of Hudson High School, and the son of Rev. and Mrs. Norman Althausen of Hudson; and Kyle Silk, majoring in industrial management, a 2007 graduate of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Silk of Hudson. -:-:-:- Courtney Goimarac of Hudson was named to the University of Mary Washington dean's list for the fall semester of the 2009-10 academic year. Goimarac is a senior at the University of Mary Washington. -:-:-:- Lauren R. Jasko, daughter of Ray and Kim Jasko of Hudson, was named to the dean's list for fall semester 2009 at Hiram College. -:-:-:- Alexandra Pfeister, daughter of Kent and Alison Pfeister of Hudson was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Ohio Wesleyan University. -:-:-:- Brittany Valentine of Hudson was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. -:-:-:- Students on the College of Wooster fall semester dean's list include: Brandon Buehler, a Western Reserve Academy graduate and senior history major at Wooster; Britta Harman, a WRA graduate from Hudson and a senior French major; Kailey Schwallie, a Hudson High School graduate and first-year student; and William Thomas, a WRA graduate from Hudson and a senior geology major. -:-:-:- The following students from Hudson were named to the dean's list for fall semester at Mount Union College in Alliance: Abby Millsaps, senior communication major, and Ashley Smith, freshman. -:-:-:- Michael Cubera of Hudson has been named to the fall semester dean's list at Michigan State University. -:-:-:- James Dawson, the son of Jim and Liz Dawson of Hudson, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Berklee College. He is a first-year student majoring in performance and music business/management. -:-:-:- Britta Harman, a graduate of Western Reserve Academy and a senior French major at The College of Wooster, received the J. Arthur Baird Prize at Wooster's 40th annual Recognition Banquet on Feb. 18. The J. Arthur Baird Prize is awarded annually to the student who, in the estimation of the Department of Religious Studies, has demonstrated the greatest aptitude in the area of New Testament Studies. -:-:-:- The University of Findlay has awarded the Dean's Scholarship to Stephanie Barnard, an equestrian studies major from Hudson. The University of Findlay has awarded the President's Scholarship and Mabel Bauer Scholarship to Nicole Stone, a pharmacy major from Hudson. Hudson resident Lauren Kolar placed second for Excellence in Writing for eighth grade at the regional Power Of The Pen tournament at Kent State University. Lauren attends Old Trail School and will advance to the state competition in May. Comments
