Education series The Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce is kicking off an Executive Education Series will four classes starting in March and ending in November. These classes are targeting business owners, CEOs and C-level management. Session I -- "Finance, Accounting & Tax Implications Your Business Can't Afford to Miss" -- is March 19 at the Barlow Community Center Memorial Room. Sessions will be in a round-table format, and participants will meet with each of four experts for 30 minutes, with time for questions. cheifs The experts for this session include CPA Steve Chiarappa of Chiarappa & Associates Ltd. He will address employee theft and steps a business can take to eliminate risk. Liz Kuonen, Market Manager and vice president of business banking in the treasury management division of National City Bank, will discuss fraud prevention. Session II on June 4 will focus on marketing and public relations. Session III on Sept. 3 will address developing and incentivizing your sales team. Session IV on Nov. 19 will feature training and employee retention. For Chamber members, each class is $50; four sessions cost $150. Learn about discoveries in nutrition On Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, the Northern Ohio Wellness Connection will present "Important New Discoveries in Nutrition Research," a video documentary by Michael Greger, on March 13 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive. Dr. Greger is a physician, author, and internationally recognized speaker who serves as the director of public health and animal agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States. He teaches about the power of certain foods to prevent and cure many of the chronic degenerative diseases that afflict so many Americans. After the 60-minute video presentation, speakers Dr. Ana Hirsh-Toth and Jim Toth, president of the Northern Ohio Wellness Connection, will lead a question and answer session. Curves collects food From March 1 to 31, Curves locations in the area, including the location at 180 W. Streetsboro St. in Hudson, will collect non-perishable items and monetary donations for food banks. Members who donate a bag of groceries or make a minimum donation of $30 in March will receive a reusable Curves grocery freezer bag for free. Non-members who do likewise between March 8 and 20 can join Curves for free. As part of this effort, Curves locations in the area will participate in a company-wide contest. Restaurant to host family fun night Marcelita's Restaurant will host its second annual Family Fun Night March 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with Community First's Ready, Set, Relax program. Now in it's sixth year, Ready, Set, Relax recognizes the nationwide problem of overscheduling and features non homework, no after-school activites and spending time with your family. Tips to go toward Marcelita's, 7774 Darrow Road, will host a fundraiser for Nick Guiney's "Angel For Life" Relay For Life team on March 11. From 5 to 9:30 p.m., Nick's parents, Liam and Alice Guiney, will work as guest bartenders. All of their tips will go toward Nick's effort to raise more than $30,000 for the American Cancer Society. Tips can be in the form of checks made out to the American Cancer Society. Nick, an eighth-grade Seton Catholic School student, received the Children in Philanthropy Award for his fundraising work in November from the North Central Ohio Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He also won the President's Volunteer Service Award, and was one of nine Ohio finalists in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for raising close to $100,000 for charity. Free financial planning workshop offered Hudson Financial Advisors invites interested Hudson residents to attend a free financial planning workshop March 10 at the Hudson Library Flood meeting rooms from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop is titled "Lessons in Life Insurance...everything you have always wanted to know but were afraid to ask."
