HCER offers new classes in March

Hudson Community Education and Recreation will offer new classes beginning the week of March 8.

Treasure Hunting: Geocaching is a new class from naturalist Beth Kuemerle for children ages 8 to 14. Join the group as they learn about the outdoors in a fun and informative trek through Hudson Springs Park. The class meets March 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hudson Springs Park.

Make Linked In Work for You is an adult class that focuses on using Linkedin for business and job search. Class meets March 13 from to 10:30 a.m. at Hudson High School.

Ring Making with Jen and Mindy is for those ages 13 and up who want to learn how to make a one-of-a-kind ring. Instructors Jen Kline and Mindy Burkhart are full-time jewelry artists and jewelers. Class meets March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cambridge Jewelers in Hudson.

Intro to Climbing is for those ages 14 and older who want to learn how to rock climb. HCER and Appalachian Outfitters have teamed up to offer this program which takes place at Kendall Cliffs in Peninsula. Class meets March 11 or 18.

Retired teacher continues passion through Encore

Jerry Graham of Hudson, a retired Shaker Heights High School teacher, will lead the course "Looking at the 20th Century through the Lens of its Famous Trials," for senior adults this spring as part of Cuyahoga Community College Encore Campus - Hudson.

"The trials offer a springboard to get some insight to much bigger issues that occurred in the 20th Century," said Graham, who taught at Shaker Heights for more than 35 years.

The trials he will cover range from the Lindberg kidnapping to the O.J. Simpson trial.

Cuyahoga Community College Encore Campus is offered to people 55 and older.

Instructors for Encore Campus - Hudson include retired educators and professionals in a range of disciplines, such as the arts, business, health and wellness, and finance. The courses offered in the upcoming session include politics, history, geology, language, religion and astrology.

Encore Campus - Hudson is at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. The next session will be April 13 through May 25 on Tuesdays.

Learn about new discoveries in nutrition

The Northern Ohio Wellness Connection will present "Important New Discoveries in Nutrition Research," a video documentary by Michael Greger, on March 13 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive.

Dr. Greger is a physician, author, and internationally recognized speaker who serves as the director of public health and animal agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States.

He teaches about the power of certain foods to prevent and cure many of the chronic degenerative diseases that afflict so many Americans.

After the 60-minute video presentation, speakers Dr. Ana Hirsh-Toth and Jim Toth, president of the Northern Ohio Wellness Connection, will lead a question and answer session.
