Gene W. Stanks, 84, a resident of Hudson for more than 50 years, died Feb. 21, 2010. Mr. Stanks was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in business administration. He served two years with the U.S. Air Force and had been a sales representative for Andco Inc. for many years. Mr. Stanks was noted for his involvement in the community, serving on the board of zoning appeals for more than 12 years, with 10 years as chair. His interests included a love of nature, world travel and reading about history. He was especially knowledgeable about the Civil War and was a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Civil War Roundtable. He was a founding member of the Country Club of Hudson. Mr. Stanks is survived by his wife, Florence Konnar Stanks; daughters, Caroll (Bill) Chronister of Ladera Ranch, Calif., and Amy (Gary) Zakiewicz of Bristol, Ind.; son, David (Raeann) Stanks of Clarkston, Mich.; brother, Thomas (Helen) Stanks of Dearborn, Mich.; and six grandchildren. The family suggests that memorials be made to Crossroads Hospice of Northeast Ohio or Robinson Memorial Hospice. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
