Three people have filed to run for state Senate District 27 this fall for the term begins Jan. 1, 2011.
Those filing petitions with the Summit County Board of Elections by the Feb. 18 deadline include Frank C. Comunale (D-Akron), Frank LaRose (R-Fairlawn) and Tamela Lee (D-Fairlawn).
If all petitions are certified, the two Democrats, Comunale and Lee, would square off in the May 4 primary.
Barring any write-in candidates, the primary winner would face LaRose in the November general election.
According to the Summit County Board of Elections, the deadline for write-in candidates is March 3.
The seat is currently occupied by Kevin J. Coughlin (R-Cuyahoga Falls). His four-year term expires Dec. 31, 2010.
District 27 includes Cuyahoga Falls, Silver Lake, Hudson, Macedonia, Northfield Center Township, Northfield Village, Sagamore Hills, Stow, Munroe Falls, Twinsburg, Twinsburg Township and Reminderville.
