Richard H. "Dick" Jenkins, 77, died on Jan. 28, 2010, at his home in Hilton Head, S.C. Mr. Jenkins was a graduate of Miami University in Ohio. He enjoyed a long career in advertising sales with various corporations and retired in 1996 from McGraw Hill. He was also a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served on both active duty and in the reserves for 38 years. He was an avid tennis player who organized and captained the 2.5 senior men's USTA team for the Sea Pines Racquet Club. In addition to his wife of 43 years, Janet Jenkins, Mr. Jenkins is survived by two daughters, Beth Jenkins of Kenosha, Wis., and Dana Hawker and her husband Walter of Alpharetta, Ga.; son, Richard P. Jenkins and his wife Maria of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Samantha and Haley Jenkins, and Andrew and Zoe Hawker; sister, Marjorie Wellmerling of Worthington, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Jim Ricketts of Denver. Military honors will take place Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines. A memorial service and reception will follow at the Sea Pines Country Club at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, S.C., 29910.
