Officer witnesses beagle getting hit, killed by car

Hudson -- In what police called an "unavoidable collision," a beagle mix dog was killed Jan. 16 after being hit by a car on West Streetsboro Street shortly before 2 a.m.

A police officer witnessed the accident.

The officer said he saw the "small brown dog as the animal darted out into the street, and the collision was unavoidable." The beagle mix had a tag on its collar, and police were able to notify the West Streetsboro Street owner to pick up the dog.

According to the officer, "the dog died at the scene." There were no charges filed.

Breaking and entry

Jan. 11. Window broken at finance company: Police are investigating a possible attempted breaking and entering at a Georgetown Road financial company. Employees reported that a window had been broken. According to police, entry was not gained. Nothing was reported missing.

Loud exhaust
and open container

Jan. 14. Men cited for open containers: Police stopped a 1995 Chevy Lumina shortly before midnight for having a loud exhaust. After stopping the car, police noticed that both the driver, a 29-year-old man from Cuyahoga Falls, and the passenger, a 45-year-old man from Akron, had an open beer can. The men were cited with having an open container and released.

Jan. 15. Man's blood alcohol level 3x over limit: A 48-year-old Michigan man was stopped by police on Darrow Road for speeding after 2:30 a.m. Police say he failed field sobriety tests, and his blood alcohol content was .23. The legal limit in Ohio is .08. The man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, blood alcohol level and speeding. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.

Domestic violence

Jan. 13. Wife accuses husband of bruising her cheek: A 47-year-old Hudson man was arrested around 9 a.m. and charged with domestic violence after his 46-year-old wife accused him of pushing her at their home. The woman told police her cheek was bruised in the alleged incident.

Assault

Jan. 12. Man accuses boss of beating him up: Police are investigating the claim of a 25-year-old Akron man that his boss "assaulted him" while they were working an electrical job at a Hudson business. No other details were available.

Theft

Jan. 11. Gift card missing: A Stow Road woman told police that a $75 department store gift card was missing from her home. The woman said the card was taken from her home during a Dec. 31 New Year's Eve party.
