Celebrate Week of Prayer in January In celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Hudson churches will collaborate for the annual interdenominational prayer service and luncheon, scheduled for Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St. The ecumenical prayer service, led by local clergy, will focus on the theme, "You are Witnesses of These Things" from Luke 24:48. Rev. Larry Marshall from Hudson United Methodist Church will deliver the sermon. Larry Walker, president of Mission4Maureen, will give his testimony. Mission4Maureen is a charitable organization set up in memory of Maureen Lowis to raise funds to help others with the ever-growing cost of medical treatments in fighting brain cancer. Monetary donations collected during a freewill offering will be sent to Mission4Maureen. Bagpiper Tom Trojan will perform during the service. Ticket holders will be treated to a luncheon catered by Hudson's Restaurant immediately following the service. Tickets are $13.50 per person for the luncheon and speaker portion of the event. The prayer service is open to all and does not require a ticket to attend. Preschool hosts St. Mary Preschool, 340 N. Main St. in Hudson will host an open house Jan. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Parents who wish to enroll their child in the 3-year-old or 4-year-old program for the fall 2010 school year are invited to see the classrooms with their child and talk with the teachers. Registrations forms can be picked up at this open house. Two openings are available in the afternoon 3-year-old program at this time. Moms group meets every other Monday A Christian fellowship of moms with young children, iMom, meets every other Monday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St. It meets in the third floor youth room to discuss various topics of interest as determined by the group. Childcare will be provided on-site. Participants do not need to be members of the church to join us. Reservations are not required, but appreciated. Presbyterian Church collects for veterans The Presbyterian Church of Hudson congregation's mission collection this month will benefit the veterans hospital. Personal hygiene items (for men and women) and items such as playing cards, puzzles, stamps, and note cards are needed. The church meets at 21 Aurora St. First Congregational hosts workshops First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St., will host five workshops, led by Dr. Jane Eckert. Eckert has been a counseling psychologist for 25 years and specializes in psychiatric disorders, addictions, women's issues, health concerns and trauma. Sessions will take place Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Feb. 2. The topics are "The Daily Energy Routine," "Tapping for Change," "Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction," "A Taste of Drumming" and "A Path of Your Own." The five sessions will be followed by a weekend retreat April 23 to 25, which will focus on the topic "Women Awakening." The Clockwork Brass and organists David Uschold and Mark Ludwig will perform in the series Feb. 5. A spring children's choir concert, an outdoor concert and an Advent concert also are planned. All concerts are open to the public at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St., and free of charge. All are invited. Rejoicing Spirits The first Rejoicing Spirits worship service is Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. All are welcome to join an inclusive Christian worship adapted to engage individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Rejoicing Spirits includes music and joyous singing; brief, meaningful messages; and fellowship with others. All faiths are welcome. Conference Webcast The Trinity Institute annual conference will be Webcast at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. in Hudson, Jan. 28, 29 and 30. Trinity Institute is an annual conference that takes place at Trinity Church in New York City, but includes a diverse audience that joins the conference via video Webcasts at partner sites around the world. This year's conference will focus on "Building an Ethical Economy." Leading theologians and economists will talk about the relationship between economics and Christian belief and action. The speakers for this conference include The Most Rev. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury; Sir Partha Dasgupta; and Dr. Kathryn Tanner. Each speaker will address topics including: "Theology and Economics: Two Different Worlds?;" "Is Capitalism a Belief System?"; "What is Wealth?"; and "What Do We Owe the Future?" The Webcasts at Christ Church Episcopal will be live beginning Jan. 28 with sessions from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m., and Jan. 29 from 9 to 10:30 am. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. There will be an encore presentation of the key speakers Jan. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $10 per person for any session.
