Students at Western Reserve Academy will host a community wide American Red Cross blood drive on Jan. 18 from 2 to 7 p.m. in the classroom of the Murdough Athletic Center. The blood drive is most easily accessed using the main entrance to the athletic center. Parking is available in the lot by the facility.

WRA seniors Allison Wirtz and Nick Hobbs, and juniors Annie Schiciano and Emily Clark have organized and will be volunteering at a series of blood drives open to the community. The January drive is the second of this year. A third drive will be on May 28.

WRA students are joining many across the nation in celebrating Martin Luther King Day with a day of service; this blood drive is just one of the ways in which students will be involved in giving back to their community.

Eligible donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be in generally good health, and must not have given blood within the last 56 days. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed permission form from their parents to donate blood.

Donors should plan to bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when they come to donate.

While appointments are not required, they are recommended.

Appointments may be scheduled at www.givelife.org with the sponsor code: wra, or by calling Elizabeth Wirtz at 330-650-9707.
