Cuyahoga Falls -- Another city resident accused of allegedly making bombs turned himself in to police Jan. 12 and was charged with illegal manufacturing or processing of explosives, a felony of the second degree.

Robert J. Feeney, 31, of Short Avenue, was also charged with cultivation of hallucinogenic mushrooms (F-2), possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms (F-3), illegal assembly or possession of chemicals or substances for manufacture of prohibited weapons (F-4), cultivation of marijuana (F-5), possession of marijuana (F-5), possession of criminal tools (F-5), possession of a gun silencer (F-5), and possession of drug paraphernalia (M-4).

Feeney appeared in Stow Municipal Court Jan. 12 when a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 20 before Judge Lisa L. Coates. He was booked and released at the Summit County Jail the same day after posting 10 percent of a $250,000 bond.

This comes less than a month after Mark Campano, 56, of Cuyahoga Falls was indicted Dec. 29 on a federal charge of possessing about 37 unregistered pipe bombs and a homemade gun silencer. An explosion in Campano's apartment on Nov. 23 led to his arrest.

Campano pleaded not guilty Jan. 12. Court records indicate a pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 26, a final pretrial conference is slated for Feb. 16 and a jury trial is scheduled to start Feb. 22.

There is no connection between Feeney and Campano, said Falls Police Sgt. Perry Tabak.

In the Feeney case, Falls officers had been dispatched at 10:45 a.m. Jan. 4 to a house in the 1600 block of Short Avenue with a court order to remove firearms from the residence, according to a press release. The court ordered the guns be removed following a previous call to the same house on Jan. 1, Tabak said.

On Jan. 1, police were called to the house around 5:15 p.m. on a disorderly conduct call. At that time, Feeney was found carrying a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his left front pants pocket while intoxicated, the report said. He was arrested and charged with using a weapon while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor.

Feeney pleaded guilty in Stow Municipal Court on Jan. 4 and was ordered to pay $1,015 in fines and costs and sentenced to a year of probation by Judge Lisa Coates, according to court records.

Law enforcement officials eventually searched Feeney's house and found an indoor marijuana growing operation, 17 firearms, ammunition, a homemade silencer, body armor, night vision goggles, police scanners, disassembled grenades, unknown powders, fuses, military flares and smoke grenades, explosives and components to manufacture explosives, according to a police department press release.

Feeney was arrested Jan. 4 and charged with possession of criminal tools, a first-degree misdemeanor. He pleaded not guilty.

After further investigation, Feeney turned himself into police Jan. 12 and was charged with the felonies.
