Karl William Kramel, 82, died Jan. 2, 2010, at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Kramel was a lifelong resident of Hudson, born at home at 90 Railroad St. (Maple Drive) in 1927. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines, and after the war, he served two years in the Army. After military service, Mr. Kramel earned a business degree from Hammel Actual Business College in Akron. He started work at National Bank of Hudson in 1950, later the First National Bank of Akron in July 1956. Mr. Kramel retired from FirstMerit Bank in November 1988 after 38 1/2 years of service. Retirement found Mr. Kramel working part time in the produce department at the Hudson Acme. He also took an active interest in cooking and baking in his retirement years. He was an active member of the Western Reserve Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hudson. Mr. Kramel was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Gladys Irene Kramel; parents, Leonard and Sophie; brother, Leonard; and three sisters, Erika, Cecilia and Sophie. He is survived by his three children, Carol Sahli of Charlotte, N.C., Dean Kramel of Garfield Heights, and Guy Kramel of Sterling, Va. A memorial service is planned for Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Western Reserve Christian Church, 516 W. Streetsboro St., with the Rev. Bob Hutson officiating.
