by Marsha McKenna Senior Editor The post general campaign finance reports filed last month by committees for candidates seeking posts with the Stow Municipal Court show both election winners were also the spending winners. Candidates were required to file a report Dec. 11 if they raised or spent $1,000 during the campaign period. Candidates for Stow Municipal Court judge were Lisa Coates and Adam VanHo, with Coates the victor. Coates reported $600 in contributions with the top amount, $150, being contributed each by Hector G. Martinez Jr. of Kirtland and James E. Brightbill of Akron. Total expenditures of $15,356.64 were reported; of that amount, $6,022.55 was spent on the printing and mailing of literature. VanHo reported contributions totaling $730, with $100 donations each received from Richard Walling of Hudson, Ohio State UAW of Maumee and James Merlitti of Akron. An in-kind contribution of $348.60 was received from the Cuyahoga Falls Democratic Club for a newspaper ad. Total expenditures of $2,460.12 were reported, including $1,281.87 for automated calls. In the clerk of courts race, Lisa Zeno Carano and Kathleen Murphy Jeffers vied for the post, with Carano victorious. Carano reported contributions of $4,405, with $250 received each from Sean G. D'Arcy of Bethesda, Md., Craig W. Klein of Galena and James J. Lawrence of Peninsula. She also received $10,436.58 in in-kind contributions, including $5,309.03 from the Ohio Democratic Party for production costs. Expenditures totaled $12,496.67, with $9,706.03 paid to the Ohio Democratic Party for mailers. Jeffers listed $5,550 in contributions, including $5,000 from the Summit County Republican Central Committee. Expenditures totaled $11,981.88, including $5,502.73 for the design, printing and mailing of literature. Comments
