Hudson -- A 40-year-old Akron construction worker was sentenced to six years in prison for breaking into a Hudson home that he had been working at last year.

Steven E. Seabeck was sentenced Dec. 16 by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne S. Callahan on one count each of burglary, a second-degree felony, grand theft, a fourth-degree felony, and menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor. Seabeck had faced up to 10 years in prison.

He was found guilty Nov. 18 by a jury after pleading not guilty Sept. 14.

"He maintained his innocence at sentencing and there will be an appeal," said John W. Greven, Seabeck's attorney.

According to Hudson Police, Seabeck was a member of a construction crew doing work at a home on Thirty Acres Lane on Jan. 23, 2009.

During the night, police say, Seabeck returned to the home, broke a front door window and entered it. The homeowner, who was in bed on the second floor at the time, heard someone in his home, according to Laurie M. Cramer, director of communications for the Summit County Prosecutor's Office.

The homeowner got out of bed and chased a man out a side door. The homeowner told police he did not get a good look at the man. However, police found a trail of blood in the basement, leading to an upstairs bedroom.

Police found a fingerprint on a bottle taken from the cabinet. The crew was asked to submit to a DNA test, but Seabeck declined. According to police, the fingerprint was Seabeck's.

He was later arrested by Akron Police and turned over to Hudson Police.
