Christine Hummel, 92, of Sarasota, died Dec. 21, 2009, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota.
The daughter of Daniel and Mary (Geise) Diehl, she was born June 29, 1917, in Northumberland, Pa., and lived in Hudson from 1958 until moving to Sarasota in 1995. A graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College, Bloomsburg, Pa., she was a long-time elementary school teacher in Point Township and Sunbury, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Benjamin Hummel in 2005, and is survived by daughters, Constance Newyear of Willoughby, Betsy (Dwight) Armistead of Elgin, Ill., and Mary of Sarasota; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Harold (June) Diehl of Shamokin Dam, Pa.
A memorial service in Pennsylvania is planned for next summer. Toale Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
