Hudson City School District lunch menus

The following are lunch menus for East Woods and Hudson elementary schools:

East Woods Elementary School entrees:

Nov. 30 -- Toasted cheese with tomato soup (alternative: Tyson chicken nuggets)

Dec. 1 -- Chipotle bar (alt: breakfast bar)

Dec. 2 -- Ravioli w/garlic bread (alt: meatball sub)

Dec. 3. -- Tyson chicken on wheat bun (alt: Max Snax Totally Taco)

Dec. 4 -- Sweet and sour chicken bites (alt: Bosco cheese sticks w/dip)

Elementary schools (Evamere, Ellsworth Hill, McDowell) entrees:

Nov. 30 -- Mini cheeseburgers, mini corn on the cob, fruit cup (alt: Chicken patty on wheat)

Dec. 1 -- Turkey sub sandwich, baked tri tator, fruit salad (alt: Bosco cheese sticks w/dip)

Dec. 2 -- Baked chicken rings, mashed potatoes, steamed corn, fresh fruit (alt: breakfast sandwich)

Dec. 3 -- Bosco cheese pizza sticks w/marinara dip, tossed salad, apples slices (alt: PB &J pocket)

Dec. 4 -- Whole wheat French toast sticks, sausage patty, yogurt and fruit cup (alt: hot dog on wheat bun)

Event celebrates students' artwork

The community is invited to celebrate all students who entered the 2009 Hudson PTA Reflections "Beauty is..." Art Contest Dec. 3 at the Hudson Library and Historical Society Flood South meeting room. Festivities start at 6 p.m.

Hudson students in kindergarten through 12th grade were encouraged to reflect on what beauty meant to them and express their vision through a variety of art mediums. Hundreds of students entered, producing paintings, drawings, photos, pieces of literature, short films, musical compositions, and dances, which will go on display in the library rotunda. Students who submitted non-visual arts pieces also will have their work displayed for this special evening only. Visual art pieces will remain on display in the library rotunda throughout the holidays.

Student Reflections entries honored with first place ribbons locally will be forwarded in January 2010 to the state level in Columbus to compete among other district-level winners. Those with top honors at the state level will go on to compete at the PTA on the national level in the spring of 2010. All student Reflections participants will be recognized and celebrated for their efforts with an awards reception with school principals April 22.

County prosecutor leads series on safety

The Hudson PTO and Hudson elementary schools will host a series of dialogues about safety. Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh will lead the discussions and answer questions at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sessions will be broadcast on HCTV.

Dialogues will include:

* Dec. 10 -- General safety for protection from sexual assaults, home burglaries, car jackings, etc.; and

* Jan. 12 -- Teaching students how to be safe on the Internet.

Order Market Day items by Dec. 8

The Community First December Market Day sale order deadline is Dec. 8 at noon. Order online at www.marketday.com. Paper order forms also are available this month at the library front desk.The sale pick up date is Dec. 12 at the market day facility on Industrial Parkway off of Terex Road from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Learn about careers from professionals

Community First's Career Panel/Intern for a Day program will host the second panel discussion of the school year Dec. 3 at the Hudson High School's media center at 7 p.m.

Parents and students in grades nine through 12 from Walsh, Western Reserve Academy, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Hudson High are invited to hear professionals in the creative arts, marketing and nonprofit fields discuss their career paths.

Following the presentation, students will be able to sign up to intern for a day with the presenters.

Schools' winter
concerts planned

The Hudson High School Winter Orchestra Concert will be Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson High School auditorium. It will be directed by Roberto Iriarte.

The Hudson High School Holiday Choir Concert will be Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Hudson High School auditorium, directed by Amy Foulkes. It will feature selections from Concert Choir, The Women's Choir, The Men's Choir, Chamber Choir and the Swing Choir. A reception will follow in the High School Atrium.

The Hudson Middle School eighth-grade orchestra will perform Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Hudson library, directed by Iriarte.

Clinics available for STEMM Project Fair

The Hudson Parent Teacher Association Science/STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) fair is scheduled for Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The STEMM Project Fair registration deadline is Jan. 29.

Three STEMM project fair clinics are scheduled leading up to the February event. All will be at the Hudson Library and Historical Society.

"Clinic 1: Project Plan and Data Collection Strategy" will be Dec. 1 and 9 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

"Clinic 2: Data Analysis and Conclusions" will be Jan. 6 and 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

"Clinic 3: Display, Oral and Written Presentations" will be Jan. 20 and 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Participants in the Hudson fair may advance to the Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair March 15-18, District Science Day at the University of Akron March 20, and Ohio State Science Day at Ohio State University May 8.

Schools collect pink yogurt lids

Hudson City Schools are collecting the pink lids from containers of Yoplait Yogurt now through Dec. 18. Residents may drop off the pink lids in the main office of each school during regular business hours, or in the specially marked containers at Acme. Yoplait will donate 10 cents for each pink lid to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization.

PTO pizza fundraiser benefits schools

Hudson Schools PTO has partnered with pizzaBOGO of Hudson for the annual Pizza for PTO fundraising program.

Each Thursday after 4 p.m., pizzaBOGO of Hudson, 180 W. Streetsboro St., donates 3 percent of every purchase to the Hudson PTO when a customer mentions Pizza for PTO at the time they place their order.
